Hey guys!

I have been using the mobile app for some time, but I just discovered the website and I am blown away by the sense of community. I am eager to find friend on this and keep me accountable. I've been up and down in weight my whole life so my family and friends aren't always the best for support, though they mean well.

The success stories keep me motivated as well as looking what other people are eating because I tend to get in a food rut. I don't always get a good internet connection in my apartment, but I look forward to taking this journey with all of you! :)

And if anyone especially has good strategies on how to eat/drink less at summer parties/fairs/receptions, I'm all ears!

Eating healthy at summer parties is definitely challenging, but this is what I have gone with so far...if it's more of a potluck and there are a million things to try, just try a little bite of them., skip dessert, drink water (even if you have to bring your own...I LOVE my insulated cup that I fill with ice water and drag everywhere with me). I find that I don't usually eat that much at social gatherings anyway because I talk alot :) As far as fairs go, that could prove to be more difficult. There are insulated lunch bags now that look more like purses...maybe carry one of those with a healthy meal and snacks packed inside :) Good luck!
  • Thanks!

Fairs will definitely be hard since I love love funnel cakes and candied apples! But I have been able to talk myself out of some things, knowing the calories and that it won't make me full.

The water trick is a good one.. I'll let you know once summer is in full swing. My friends like to do patio drinking (go to a dining establishment and have appetizers and drinks out side for hours) so I'm going to have to be really careful.

Congrats on your weight loss so far!

Hi and welcome to the site! Remember you can always treat yourself once and awhile. This is a lifestyle change! And I don't know about you, but I'm not going to ever completely stop eating the junk food I love! My advice for the fairs/cookouts etc. I would let the host know in advance you are trying to make this change. Instead of a burger, you could have chicken. Fruit, water instead of beer. Most people would be willing to work with you. If not, just try eating before or after.

Feel free to add me if you like!
  • I'm actually getting a little better with the junk food. I used to eat a box of hot tamales a day (instead of sitting down and eating lunch or a real meal) but i gave it up for lent and surprisingly I didn't cheat and after the first two weeks I stopped wanting them. I didn't pick the habit back up..so far. :) But I agree, I will always be a recovering junk food junkie
