Desk Job Frustration

I recently switched jobs and I am in the Graphics field which means being on a computer and sitting down most of the day. I also have to travel 30 min to and from work so most of my day is sitting. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas beyond the basics to help break up the constant sitting or some good things to do at my desk without being noticeable to the people around me. I take a walk at lunch but I just feel like I'm sitting way to much!

At my husband's office, they have an option of "standing work stations" or something. You could see if something like that is a possibility. Good luck!

I have the kind of job where I have a desk, but I only get to use it for more than a few moments once every few months and it makes me crazy to sit still that long.

What I try to do it get some added movement in during the day, I don't keep a trash can in my office so I have to get up and walk to the hall every time I need to throw something out. I bring a bunch of smaller water bottles with me and every time I finish one, I walk out to my car (parked in the farthest spot possible) to get a new one. I keep my lunch in my car as well as my fruit for snacking on in the car too an make trips out each time I need something, I also get out of my chair and walk to people that I need to talk to rather than reaching for the telephone.

There are lots of strength training/mini workouts that you can find for chair workouts, if you're up to some creative Googling. Jonathan Roche of No Excuses Workouts has a free version floating around out there somewhere that is great for people that are both chair bound by trade or for health reasons.

I'm in the same situation. I have a desk job, where I am sitting down all day. What I do: I use up half of my lunch hour and go walking or roller blading in the neighborhood. Also, I use public transportation, so I get off a stop earlier to make sure I get those walking minutes in. Other than that, before and after work is a good time to get some of those cardio minutes in.
