o.k. Right now, I shut off my HRM when I am done with my work out. Should I leave it on till my HR gets out of the burn zone, or wait till my HR is down to normal? Or keep doing what I do.

When do you turn your's off after a work out in relation to your heart rate???

I usually turn it off after the workout and don't count the cool down... but I don't think it is necessarily bad to squeeze in a couple of extra calories as you cool down.

I turn mine off the second I get off of the treadmill. You will burn a few more during cool down, but I would just consider those little extra credit calories!

I turn mine off as soon as I'm done. I figure the cool down is a bonus

Mine goes off pretty much straight away - I figure even if there's some slack there it will probably be soaked up by the odd miscalc in food portion size or inaccurate DB entry etc.

I'm in the bonus camp....I shut down as soon as the workout is done and don't count cool down calories.

Thanks! I usually walk slower till I get out of the burn zone, then I shut it off. I was just interested in what other people are doing!

Once you get in good shape you will find your heart rate will drop out of the burn zone in under 30 seconds. So, it probably isn't going to make much difference either way.

I wait until my heart rate gets out of the zone. As long as my heart rate is still up I count it.

Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about that!

I think it's important to remember that you're *still burning* during the cool down. I turn mine off in-between workouts, (sometimes I do weights before my Zumba class, so I turn it off during the transition) and then again immediately after the workout is officially over. But, the cool down is a part of your workout so leave it on :-)

I wait until my heart rate goes under 65% of max, but then I deduct the calories that I would have burned if I hadn't exercised, which (for me) is about the number of minutes * 1.3.
