Will I get smaller faster as I lose more weight?

Hi everyone!

I have a question which has been bugging me for a while, and I am guessing there should be some well-informed people on this community who can perhaps help me.

As you can see, I have lost 65lb since last November, which I have achieved by combining the sensible eating with a fairly consistent programme of exercise. This works out at just over 4-and-a-half stone, which feels like a huge amount to have lost.

In the time I have been losing weight, I have lost perhaps two to two-and-a-half clothes sizes. I was probably around a UK 22 when I started, maybe a large 22 but certainly not as big as a 24. I'm now pretty much an 18 in most clothes.

I would like to slim down to a UK size 14 but I am confused because I am well over halfway to my goal weight and at the rate I have been shrinking so far, it will take a lot more weight loss before I even get close.

At the same time I read a lot of feedback from (much slimmer) people, who will say something like 'Wow! I lost the 10lb I needed and I am over a dress size smaller!'

At that ratio and speed, I'd have lost nearly 5 dress sizes by now! But I haven't.

So my question is, as I continue to lose weight, will the dress sizes start dropping off faster? I am guessing this might be the case, and there may be a scientific or mathematical reason for it.

I'd be very interested to hear anyone's ideas or anecdotal evidence in this area, especially as I think it would give me a massive motivational boost to hear I had this to come. Or at least if I'm wrong, I'll just have to rethink my weight goals and be more realistic.

Thank you!

Think of a bunch of concentric circles inside each other. I'm sure you can guess quickly that the outer circles contain more area than the inner circles. Each of these circles represent a clothing size, so (theoretically) as you get smaller it should take less weight loss to lose another clothes size. I have a feeling this isn't quite true at the inner range, but I would definitely think it's true for the mid to outer range.

Also remember that every one is different, so people will drop clothes sizes differently.

That's a great analogy! Thank you. I will get my chin up and head to the gym then :)

For me yes this is true. When i first started It took like 30 pounds or more to drop a size. Now I am dropping them at a faster pace, like 20 pounds. I'm sure as I get cloer to my goal it will be even less pounds.

As you can see i've lost 25 lbs and have dropped 3 sizes, i was a size 24UK but as of today am fitting into a big size 18 yay. i can only guess with all the exercise i'm doing i'm toning up.
  • Yeah it is about getting smaller through toning as well, you'll find that measurements change more than weight at times, and that's when the dress sizes drop.
    At my highest weight i was 172lbs with a 27/28inch waist and a size 12, now i'm 156lbs and a size 8 with a 24/25inch waist.
