I read that to loose a pound you need a deficit of 3500 calories. Ok, to be honest with you I am horrible at math. What does this exactly mean? Do I need to burn 3500 calories, Be under 3500 calories a week, ?? Does anybody know how do you calculate this??? I would love to loose one pound a week.
Thanks!!

MFP builds in the deficit for you but you need to burn 3500 calories more than you eat.

    so

Exercise + Basal Metabolic Rate - Food intake should = 3500

Mfp has made it simple for us. All you have to do is eat the calories they suggest we do and we will lose depending on what you set your goal at...1 lb a week, 1/2 lb or 2 lbs a week. 3500 calories= l lb loss but that doesn't mean you have to exercise and burn 3500 calories!! Best of luck to you:) I'm terrible at math too....it's a good thing you don't have to be a math professor to do this lol!

Well you have your BMR which is what you burn by doing nothing so lets say its 1500 and then you have energy you burn doing activities during the day lets say thats 150 calories and then exercise calories lets say is 300 so your body to maintain its weight would be 1950 now to lose a pound you have to subtract 3500 calories and doesnt have to be all in one day so if you eat 1450 calories put you at a -500 deficit i would take you 7 days to lose 1 pound

3500 calories less than you now eat. To lose 1 pound in 7 days you must eat 500 calories less per day. Best thing to do is track your weight for 3 to 4 days of eating how you normally eat to determine your calories per day. Then set your goal for 500 calories less per day. This will work with no other changes but an increase in activity will help your body to tone and tighten as you lose.
