I am using protein shakes, one for brekki and one after my work out daily. If im under my calories too much i tend to have one at the end of the day to make up my calories. I am always over my sugar (can not seem to do anything about it) but am also over my protein by 40+. Many members have said the MFP protein is very low so i was wandering how much protein i should be having a day???
I am 21, 162cm tall, 67kgs.
I dont do extreme weight training, mainly cardio at the mo
If any one could help me, i would be super appreciative!!
Thanks

I would shoot about .7 x your weight in pounds. The site is for "general" situations. Protein is the building blocks of the body.0 -
1g of protein per lb of bodyweight is seen as ideal, and what alot of people aim for. The MFP settings are certainly low so I wouldn't worry about that, I would use them more as a minimum rather than a limit.
Also, you can change your settings in "goals". I have mine set to 30% at the moment, whereas MFP's default is at 15%0 -
You can change your ratios by going into the goals setting. Since I'm doing P90X, I'm in need of a lot more protein, so my ratios are at 40% protein, 40% carb, 20% fat. I usually get in around 120 grams of protein a day. Play around with your numbers and see what works for you0

Protein shakes are great for getting more protein, but not necessarily a "meal replacement" - they do not have all the different nutrients that you would get in a meal replacement shake.....
If you do want to drink your calories I suggest that you look at that 3rd one being a more balanced meal replacement type shake than a protein only one....there will still be protein in it - but other nutrients your body needs as well0 -
Let me get this straight - you're consuming up to 3 protein shakes a day? Breakfast, workout, and another if low on calories?
That doesn't sound like a healthy sustainable approach to food. It probably also explains why you're over on sugar!
That said, going over your protein goal isn't a big deal, it's very hard to have too much protein. But I'd try getting more of your nutrition from natural sources - a handful of almonds or a glass of milk will help if you're low on cals.0 -
I have a protein shake in the morning with breakfast which is also fruit. The reason i am having one at night is becasue i am low in calories and am over my sugar (only 1g of sugar per protein shake i have and i usually have them with water). How do i consume more calories with out goig even more over my sugar? It seems better to go over my proteindoesnt it?0
