I recently started zoloft 50 mg. and have recently noticed cravings for sweets and other carbs. Is it possible to lose weight with this medicine? It is helping with my panic attacks, but I am so worried about the side effects.

jmsladky,
I don't want to at all burst your bubble if this medication works for you - I hope it does - but when I was on it, I gained a lot of weight. The thing to remember is that everyone reacts differently to these types of medications, and I've been on a lot of them, so I hope for you this doesn't happen or that the cravings ease off soon. Keep a close eye on what you're eating, drinking, exercising, etc.

I am also taking 100 mg of zoloft for my panic. I still lose weight from it. My hunger was so extremely high after i exercise but I use smart choices when it came to food. I noticed (for me) that zoloft gave me a good energy and sleep better at night. I take it at bedtime and I woke up feel so happy and so energized. So for you, u just started, it will MIGHT affect you differently for few days to 2 weeks then once u know what is work better for you and zoloft. Things will go better for you. My panic attacks stopped for 4 and half months and thanks to zoloft and exercising and eating healthy. Any question just ask!
Good luck!0 -
Most medications like that cause you to gain weight. Being in the healthcare field I can tell you that the best medication like zoloft that will not make you gain weight is Wellbutrin (generic: Buproprio). This medication works for many different things, anxiety, depression, stress, weight loss, and also to help quit smoking. I have been on it for about 3 weeks due to a high stress level in my life right now and I have had no side effects except small headaches. I have also realized that I don't crave sweets at also, it's the opposite and all I really want is fruit. Talk to you doctor about your concerns and ask about the medication I spoke about, if it's something you have not already tried. Good luck to you and if you have any more questions feel free to send a message or add me as a friend.0

Hi! I suffer from OCD and Bipolar Disorder. I have been on everything under the sun and gained over 100lbs from medications ( I probably wouldn't have if I wasn't on meds). Everyone's body reacts differently to medications. When I was on Zoloft I gained a couple of pounds the first month. No biggie, but I had worked really hard at that point to keep weight off. So I quit.
I also suffer from panic attacks and anxiety and found that celexa really seems to help, and I experience no weight gain. If it becomes a problem for you, there are lots of different anti-depressants to try (They do not all cause weight gain. I've been on a lot of them ) I finally found a cocktail of medications that finally does not cause hunger!! Just talk to your doctor and hopefully you'll be able to find a compromise.
Good Luck and I hope you feel better!
