Hi everyone,

Tomorrow I am going to my first Zumba class and I was looking through the exercise database to try and find out roughly how many calories I would burn but it wasn't on there.

What do other people log it as? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Get an HRM!!! That is the only accurate way to totally track your calories. When I first used my HRM when I was doing my Zumba classes I was amazed at how much I burned...although the instructor said you can burn any where from 600-1000 calories a class. I didn't believe her until I saw it! Have fun!

I notice that some people log it in as Fast Ballroom Dance.
  • When I do Zumba, I use the cardio entry called, "Aerobics, High Impact." It truly is high impact, but it is soooo much fun! Enjoy! :)

I put it under dancing - aerobic, ballroom, etc.

I don't have a hrm so I logged it as dancing - general.

Before my HRM i loggd it as high impact aerobics which was better than not logging at all

On average you burn about 400-600 cals in an hour of Zumba. I added Zumba to my database and set it about 450 cals for an hour.

  • Take a look at http://www.zumbacalories.com enter your weight, workout duration & intensity and it will calculate how many calories you have burned based on average metabolic rates
