Anyone see the Rachel Ray show (repeat) today on Weight Loss Wonders ??
Just curious........they had Jorge Cruise on and he says that you don't need to count calories and "It's not about eating less, it's about learning to eat the right amount of sugar and carbs,"
According to him - dieters should stop counting calories and start counting sugars and carbs. "The goal - 15 grams a day of sugar, 6 servings of carbs.
Anyone have any thoughts ????

That cuts out almost ALL veggies and fruit. Not sustainable, IMO.
Besides... are we "dieting" or trying to achieve a lifestyle change? I'm going for lifestyle change. Diets fail.0 -
I can't give up my fruits and veggies! And you can't spot reduce either! Fat is going to leave your body from whatever area it can find it, not just one.0

I'm with you. This is one ''diet'' I couldn't follow for long. I love my fruit and veggies. I'm still losing so I'm good with what i'm doing!0 -
The goal of all diets, when it comes down to it, is eating less. Cutting out different foods will help you eat less. Some diets say cut out carbs, some say sugars, some say fats. The goal of all of these is to reduce overall calorie intake. I personally don't like restricting myself of any one food...that's not a long-term solution. That's why I count calories. Fad diets come and go...but the only diet that works stays....EAT LESS.0

Yup. Two Words: Book Sales. Ya know what? I have come to believe there is no magic bullet in this. Everyone's body is different. We need to become experts on what works for US. This kind of "advice" just seems like the modern equivalent of "snake oil" to me - it's just the old Eat Protein & Fat Diet re-worked into something "new." Sorry I'm so cynical - but if you decide to give it a try, please make sure to let us know how it turns out!0

I haven't read, but I think what it mostly comes down to is what works for you. If you think cutting all of X out of your diet is something you can live with more easily than cutting down calories overall then go for it.
For me, cutting and/or manipulating my est. calorie intake allows me the flexibility to do what I want and be social and still in control. Cutting out all or most of something just isn't feasible for me- I like to do things, try things, and just in general do what i want so having calorie limits and goals works best for me.0 -
Dieting is all about moderation. So called 'sinful' foods are allowed, you just need to take care. Dieting should be fun, not a prison sentence0

For me, I am trying to eat healthier and got into a routine of adding more fresh veggies and fruits to my diet than I ate before......
I was just curious.......... to see him say only limit your sugars to 15 grams a day and 6 grams of carbs a day seems very low !
For example if an average banana or apple has maybe 14 to 20 grams of sugar then 1 piece of fruit would use up the total for the whole day :noway:0 -

It isn't 6 grams of carbs a day it 6 servings. If I remember correctly a serving with 6-10 grams is one serving. It's not a bad way of eating, more carbs than on South Beach.0 -

I only eat about 100 grams of carbs a day, and I could eat like this forever. Even if you don't follow the guidelines in the book ( I didn't, I was already doing South Beach), there are alot of really good recipes in it. I made the pancakes last night for dinner, they have no sugar in them and very low on carbs. Also I didn't buy the book, checked it out from the library.0

I am reading the Belly Fat Cure Fast Track book now and I think it has some interesting points. It kinda seems like a south beach/atkins combo. I don't think he said 6 carbs a day as he promotes lots of greens which do have carbs. In fact, there is no carb counting on his diet.
It seems simpler too then both SB and Atkins in that you just eat from the food lists. I found that SB was hard for me because it was pretty low fat and I was always hungry on it. I have not been hungry at all on this plan. (I have not done atkins but I almost feel like I am doing it now.. I have to read more to see the exact difference)
The recipes in the book look great and I found it to have a lot of great advice if you are already interested in lower carb then it is a good read.
I am doing his recommended get up and exercise on an empty stomach this week to see if I get better results.
I am following it this week and find it really simple and easy. I have way more energy then I did eating a high carb diet filled with sugar.0 -
I find I loose weight when I stay around 100 NET carbs per day. On here that is Carbs minus fiber = Net Carbs. If you watch your carbs, you sugar will stay right in line. You can eat plenty of fruits and veggies on 100 Net carbs and eat a well rounded diet.
Everyone's body is different, what works for me may not work for others.0 -
I got this book yesturday, I need to wait till I buy grocery again, but It seems like a good plain to do. I am going to take a chance and give it a go. I have never drank 32 oz of water in a day lol but I did yesturday .

this is 6 SERVINGS of carbs...not grams

Isn't a serving 20g of carbs? 120g of carbs though is not that little although i'm not sure how you're supposed to get only 9g of sugar in with that many carbs0 -
6 servings of fruits and veggies is my average lunch. What am I supposed to eat for the rest of the day? Only protein? I'm not giving up my 2-3 servings of broccoli at dinner (I kind of like broccoli). As I said earlier, it's just not long-term sustainable.
A few years ago, while under doctor's supervision, I tried South Beach Diet. I started having strange, erotic dreams about finally getting to eat an orange. Due to low blood sugar (from not enough carbs), my general mood/disposition went to pot. I was miserable, and everyone around me was miserable. If a 'diet' will mess with the rest of your metabolism SO severely, then it obviously can't be good for you in the long run.
Quick fix diets don't fix you. When you're done with the latest diet, you'll go right back to reaching for the wrong foods. I'm in this for the long haul, not for the latest 'quick-fix diet'.0 -

I know this is an old post, but ....
It doesn't cut out ALL vegetables and fruit at all. Berries, green apples, and grapefruit have very low carbs/sugars. So do most veggies.0 -

YOU are not supposed to do anything because it's obviously not the right plan for you.
For other people, spacing out 6 fruit and veggie servings throughout the day would work just fine.0
