I am confused by something. If your BMR is the amount of calories it takes your body just to function properly, then how is it ok to regularly eat below that amount, example: by BMR calories are 1480.9 to maintain my weight it is 1788. this site tells me i can eat 1288 calories a day if i want to lose a pound a week, so if my body requires 1480 calories just to breath and have a heartbeat etc.. aren't i depriving my basic body functions of the number of calories they require to work properly?
If any one can help with this i would appreciate it.

    hello

well your body is clever enough to get the energy that is has stored in the fat tissues. that's when you loose weight.

basicly because your body doesn't get enough calories to go on for the day, it uses whats it has stored.

That's right - you have enough energy stored in your body fat - which you are trying to lose i would imagine if you are here...so you begin to use your stored energy to meet basic body functions...yeah!!! Having said that, if you go too far below that, or below the threshold, your body will start to slow down your metabolism...so as not to start into your necessary cells. Remember that number you mention is based on a certain metabolism...and starving (or eating too few calories) will slow your metabolism and your body will start storing all you eat to protect itself.

    Hope that helps.
