Agree with rtmama...Google and there are alot out there including oats...You want higher fiber and less starch. The more fiber the slower the "sugar" and carbs are released into your system. Also they are more nutritious and not as much of the "empty" calories...AND GOOD FOR YOUR HEART0

Brown or wild rice, barley, bulgar wheat, quinoa, oats. "whole grain" means that the bran is included. This is important because it means the grain will be digested more slowly and you will not get the same insulin spike that you will get from grains that have had the bran removed.
Unfortunately they are usually more expensive, though most are not too bad. Brown rice, barley and oats are usually fairly reasonably priced. In my neck of the woods wild rice and quinoa (which are both actually seeds but usually get classified and eaten as grains) are failry expensive.
When buying processed grains such as bread, cereals or pasta be sure to check the ingredients. It should say "whole" on the first ingredient or "100% whole grain (or wheat)" on the label. Many foods that say "made with whole grains" or "multi-grain" actually contain very little whole grain. Also, watch out for added sugar.0 -
I'd like to add that at Whole Foods, they have a lot of choices in the Bulk isle. I buy most of my whole grains, nuts and beans this way, much cheaper than packaged, and I can buy as little or as much as I want.
At one local WF, I even found sprouted whole wheat flour in the bulk bins!!!0
