I have created a custom goal of 1900 daily calories with 40%carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fat. MFP gives me the following goals:

190g carbs
190g protein
42g fat

190+190+42=422
190/422=.45
42/422=.10

If you do the math, this is 45% carbs and protein, and 10% fat.

There may be something I am unaware of but please help me figure out what I'm missing!!

  • You can change those percents as well...

Thanks for the reply but I set the % at 40,40, and 20 and 190,190, and 42 are the goals it gives me for grams.

    "190g carbs
    190g protein
    42g fat "

Fat has 9 Calories/gram, carbs and protein have 4 Calories/gram (and alcohol has 7 Calories/gram). 190*4=760 and 42*9=378. So 760+760+378=1898. 378/1898=19.8%. Pretty darn close! I understand your confusion, but it is standard to talk about % Calories from a given macronutrient.

    190g carbs OR protein x 4 cal/gram = 760 calories
    760 carb/protein calories / 1900 total calories = 0.4 ... x 100% = 40%

    42g fat x 9 cal/gram = 378 calories
    378 fat calories / 1900 total calories = 0.198 ... x 100% = 19.8%

I knew I somehow didn't understand something correctly. Thanks for straightening this out for me! It's making a lot more sense now!
