I'm baaaaack. From my not-very-fun trip back "home" in the states to be with family while my grandfather died. Unfortunately there was a lot of miscommunication in the hospital and grandpa didn't pass right away like they said. We had to come home today, even though he was still hanging on. They expect him to pass this weekend instead of last weekend like they originally stated when they pulled the plug on everything and my husband and I rushed to be there. While his mind has been lost and he cannot wake up, his heart is still strong and still beating as long as it can. Which in a way makes me smile because my grandpa was stubborn and always healthy as a horse until now.

While it was hard to come home today and leave my family knowing that he would pass very soon and I'd not be able to be there for the funeral or to support my family, I'm glad that I was able to be there and see him before he passed. I feel deep down that even though he's in a coma, he knows I was there. And I got to say my goodbyes instead.

Thanks for all of the prayers and thoughts -- you guys are wonderful. It was a hard week. I know most of it was because I didn't get much sleep and spent most of my time at the hospital under stress and sadness, but I know part of it was because I went from exercising 5-6 days a week and tracking all of my food to very little exercise (we did sneak in walks around the neighborhood at my parents' house a few times and we walked instead of sitting and waiting for our flights in the airports) and not being able to track my food. I'm back and ready to get back into the swing of things.

Thanks again for being awesome -- I missed my MFP family! :) Hope everyone has been doing well <3

I'm so sorry about your grandpa. I lost mine when I was 13, and it was really hard, because he too was this icon of strength and we were really close. It was tough to see him go (he had pancreatic cancer), but I think what's waiting for us after this time on the planet sounds really great. :flowerforyou: Glad to have you back!

  • Im so sorry to hear about you grandpa. I understrand your pain. My grandma passed 3 yrs ago. We were very close and it was very difficult to watch her die slowly. She was in a nursing home and stopped eating and drinking. It was 12 days before she passed and while her eyes were sometimes open they just wandered back and forth. She never did focus on us during that time. But i know in my heart she could feel my presence. And though your grandpa is in a coma he could feel you too. Its hard to say good bye. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. God Bless.
