Ok... about to turn 40 and feel like ****! Here I am, male, 50lbs over weight with apparently no will power. I would like to feel sexy or desirable for once in my life... not that you need to feel it, but I need to feel it!! Please respond!! What will it take? How do I make this site work?
Thank you for your honesty,
Maurice

This site is very helpful if you want to take control of your goals. Here are the secrets to success. First, "friend" many motivated people - they will help you when you get stuck. Second, log your food and exercise - and make sure you share you diaries with your friends. That is the best way for them to help you. Third, work the system. When you get stuck, post on your page and someone will help. Have some fun.
BTW - you will feel sexy when you feel in control of your own body. If that doesn't work, men in toolbelts always do it for me!0 -
ok you want honest answers so here it comes. The first thing you do to make this site work it to be completly honest and log your food, and stay within your limits. No sneeking no cheating and no just forgetting to log what you have eaten. The other thing is get your butt up and do the work. You need to get in some workouts weather it be at the gym or outside of the gym.. Get your heart rate up, sweat, and most of all give this a real chance and give it your all. If you can do this then you will come over that mountain feeling sexy but more importantly healthy. Good luck on this journey and feel free to ask me any questions and add me if you need some more friends.0

What does it take?.... determination, will power, desire, discipline and support. Lots and lots of support. Oh, and exercise And the humbling ability to forgive yourself if you stumble and the strength to get right back at it.
How to make this site work?... come to it every day, multiple times a day. Log EVERYTHING you eat and drink. Even if it's something you know you should have had, log it anyway.
It sounds like you are ready.0 -
This site is great for counting calories and tracking your exercise and progress.. but YOU have to want it. If you do, you will make it. Don't let yourself get totally off track just because you had a bad moment or day, just get right back on track and keep going. Trust me I am almost 40 and about 100 lbs overweight, and I have the WORST will power, do I want mcdonalds of course but then I say to myself.. what do you want more that one mcdonalds meal that will last 10 minutes or to lose weight, look good, feel better about myself and have others find me attractive again... and my answer is always the second one so I keep going and when I get on the scale and i have lost weight it makes my day.. Also another major tip.. DONT weigh yourself a lot.. ONLY once a week! if you weigh yourself too much you will get discouraged. Water fluctuation is evil so don't weigh but once a week.. you can do it .. Good luck0

Dear nmkruse,
I am not a person to blog... I am even not that computer literate. You are the first to respond and I thank you deeply. If one person would be a friend, I would like it to be you.
Thank you,

You can use a good ol' paper journal if you're not fond of computer/ website logging. I count my calories on a paper journal. Just be sure to write down anything and everything that goes into your mouth, even if it's just one lonely M&M!
My other advice is to never give up, even if you mess up along the way. Don't let one bad weekend push you off the wagon!!0 -
Absolutely honesty with yourself is how this site will work for you. As was said earlier, no fudging numbers, no leaving off calories. Keep track of everything, down to condiments and sauces. Exercise often--start out slow and work up over the course of weeks. Don't look at this as something you're going to do for a while until you get a desired result--make these changes that you can make a part of you FOREVER. That's how to make this work! You're here, and you want it, and those two things will make all the difference. Don't feel discouraged, don't feel like it's got to happen instantly--think of where you were a year ago, and think about how close a year ago feels. Now imagine this time NEXT year. Where do you want to be? You can DO that. Start now, use this site, and believe.

You do it one day at a time. One meal at a time. In your heart, you know what to eat...or at least what NOT to eat. Always make the right choice. Chicken or cheeseburger - broccoli or french fries - apple or candy bar.
Get all the junk out of your house, your car, your work place. That really makes it easier to resist temptation when it sneaks up on you in a weak moment.
Make lots of friend who support your goals and that do what it is that you want to do. Not what you are doing now, but who are the people who are eating how you would like to eat and doing what you would like to do. Check out the menus of those folks and follow along. Act as if... and then it will real in no time.
Good luck on your journey!

I think the most important thing to remember is that you are worth it. If you have a bad day and go way off course, get yourself back on course the next day or later that day. It isn't ok to give up or think 'I'll start again on Monday'. The mobile app is awesome! It makes it so easy to log your food and hold yourself accountable for doing it. Plan for meals and snacks, think about it the day or a few days before so you're not staring at the refrigerator at 5:00 starving and there isn't anything ready for you to snack on while you make dinner. Oh, and just because you are trying to lose weight doesn't mean you can't eat some of your fave foods, just have less of them less often and plan for it. If you give up everything you love, you'll never stick with it. For me, I am trying to not get on the scale everyday (I'd be on it 5 times a day if I let myself). 1 or 2 times a week at the most and I am only going to record my weight on Mondays. Oh, also, try and get some good sleep. it really can help! Good luck to you!0
