Avoiding Nuts and Avocados? Don't.

Sometimes I like to eat my calories in high calorie, yet healthy foods... like walnuts, almonds, or avocados. When I eat those foods, I am not only not hungry, but I seem to lose more weight than if I eat lower calorie bulkier foods. When I first started losing weight, I would have avoided those foods like the plague since they are so high in calories... but now I look forward to them since they are so good for me and they are very satisfying. They keep me from getting that feeling of needing a nap after I eat too. Since I've found this to be so helpful... I just wanted to share what I discovered. I really think they are a secret that keeps that scale going in the right direction. Try it someday, try trusting the calories will hold you.... they do.

Another hint I learned that is helpful for the summer: Eating either Lemons or Watermelon (not together of course... well unless that appeals to you) help your skin avoid sunburns! Crazy, huh?

    Thanks for posting!

I agree. I love almonds and I have them everyday. In moderation. They offer so many benefits and filling.

One of my favorite summer lunches is avocado halves stuffed with a little bit of tuna salad. Yum!

As for lemons & watermelon helping prevent sunscreen, that's interesting, but I'm not about to quit using high SPF full-spectrum sunscreen either.

that's the premise for The Flat Belly Diet, by Prevention - eating heart healthy fats. I completely agree with you. Although I'm not doing the diet currently because the calorie intake at 1600 a day is too much for me right now, I am def. trying to include more oils, olives, avocado, soybeans and nuts in my diet. Also I use lemon to increase how far my salad dressing goes and I heard watermellon helps you loose weight - can't remember why, but who cares its watermellon and its so good - especially in summer. I don't need a reason to eat it! :)

Thanks for the tip! The last couple of days I've really fancied nuts so bought a packet of almonds. Only been eating 10 at a time (90 cals approx) but they filled me up much more than a packet of crisps or a chocolate bar would. I think I will be buying some more for the rest of the week

The Flat Belly Diet is actually pretty cool. The best part about it is you can take most of the premise behind it, and apply it to your own diet...without going overboard...and still see results.

For those that don't know...it's the diet attached to the little banana add you see on this site lol.

To the OP...I agree completely!! I eat nuts all the time (I love cashews lol)...and if my local grocery store didn't have the most disgusting avacado's on the planet...I'd be eating them all the time too lol.

The tuna salad with avocado sounds great! About the sunscreen usage.... Glad you added that! PLEASE don't think I'm suggesting not using an SPF. But for people like me who burn easily and are spending more time in the sun, any additional help is great. Trying hard to avoid wrinkles at my age. :-)

I was reading an article in the gym about skim milk being not good for a diet. That fat in 2% milk helps you to feel fuller, longer. I need to look into it a little bit more bu it is the same idea as yours.

Agreed. Even beyond wrinkles, sunscreen is so important (even for people who tan easily) to prevent skin cancer. I'd rather be pale & healthy than tan with cancer any day!

I have had the same experience. I feel satisfied and full for longer. Pistachios are fairly low in cals, considering it is a nut. I use to be very low on good cholesterol and now I am almost the healthy range.
