i'm dumb, "it's not working" complaints and epiphanies...

i was getting frustrated because my diet and exercise routine (that i'm adopting for the rest of my life, really) wasn't yielding me the results i thought it would.
well, that's because i'm dumb. i'm 5'3" 140lbs... which means that my resting calorie burn is about 1420. well, i modified my eating and am now eating 1200 (don't want to do any less, don't like being hungry), but i eat back my exercise calories so im always at AT LEAST 1200.
a pound weighs 3500 calories. since i'm not cutting 500 calories a day, i'm not going to lose a pound a week. i'm going to lose about half that - sometimes less. i'm dumb. of COURSE it's taking longer than i anticipated. and of COURSE my results are slow moving and hard to see on the scale.
the lesson here is... do the math

That's the reality, unfortunately. The closer you are to your goal weight, the harder it is to lose. You are almost the same exact height and weight as me and it's definitely taking awhile to lose the weight. You might try not eating back your exercise calories for a week or two, while staying over 1200 calories, and see if you get better results. I rarely eat back mine purposely but do sometimes work out specifically so I can eat a little more.
Good luck and keep at it!0 -
And don't forget, slow is better. Much better chance of new practices becoming habit, and the weight staying off. Good for you!!0

I'm also the same height and finally got down now to 141....i understand its been harder lately to lose it because we are at that "healthy" stage now but I also try to zig zag my calories. Its helped because I know one week I wouldnt lose but then the next I lost 2-3 pounds. Make sure to drink plenty of water as well because water retention can play tricks on the scale. Good luck to you and your weight loss!0 -
I wouldn't say dumb...misinformed might be a better word choice. You can do it. Slow weight loss gives you plenty of time to develop new good haibits! Best wishes!0

Impossible to be dumb if you're learning.0
