Goat is very low in calories and has a lovely rich taste to it. Curried goat is a really delicious dish...just thought i'd share!

I love goat. I had the most amazing goat tacos when I was in the West Indies recently. Yum! A Jamaican place near my work does a great goat curry. I am in the US and especially once you get away from larger metropolitan areas, it seems people are freaked out by any meat that isn't beef, chicken, fish, etc. Afraid of the unknown, I guess.

unless you fix it like we do -- Cabritto--bar b que with tons of sauce and seasonings!!! I kinda think it is gamey- but tons of people really like it. and it is low fat.

I was eating some goat at my aunt's once and it came out that this particular one had a name prior to it becoming a meal, and I was told the name. Since then, not too keen on goat. Plus my neighbor had one that was like a dog. I know it's hypocritical because I do eat meat (mostly fish and chicken) but I have to draw the line somewhere, the meat's just not THAT GOOD for me to be having thoughts of ole Harriett while I chew the meat.

My dad used to soak game meat in milk or soda water to get the "gamey" taste out...or he would cook it in a pressure cooker, that always made it super tender.

I miss having goat meat! Yum!

Damn...Now you people gonna have me driving into downtown Orlando to Paradise Cafe to get me some curried goat tonight. That will take up a bulk of the calories I need to consume tonight.

My family is very rural and most of my uncles owned farms, and most of my cousins and my dad were all in 4H, so as it happens one of my cousins had to raise a cow as a 4H project, she named him Billy, one night at dinner, my cousin asked her mother, "Mama is this Billy?" Needless to say my grandparents got a freezer full of beef.....never name your food.

I cook it for 2-3 hours and it's really tender, falls apart in your mouth.

I posted a topic about this recently.. I eat goat every couple weeks or so, because we have really close friends from Africa who prefer it as their source of red meat..

I have dealt with goats from the pasture to the table and the flavor varies. Females aren't normally eaten because they are more valuable for breeding and milking but I have had meat from one that was not good for breeding. The meat was very mild. The same is true for castrated males or very young ones. But if the boys are intact the flavor becomes strong after they hit about a year old.. The older they are the worse it is. I've eaten some that is pretty strong but I don't like it much because it tastes the way a hormonal male goat smells, like plastic-y chemicals

We are raising our own goats for meat. Also have a black angus calf in the paddock as well.
