Gym users -- what gym do you use?

I go to Fitness First - plenty of cardio and weight equipment and good classes (love the Body Combat cardio kickboxing!) Although the times of the classes could be better...they have tons of stuff geared to the soccer mom crowd (i.e between 9 and 4 on weekdays, but nothing on Saturday or Sunday after 12:30). I do wish it had a pool. I can't complain too much though, because my work pays for it. I also have an unlimited membership to a local yoga studio.0

I go to Goodlife Gym and I love it there!0

I go to X-Sport Fitness and I love it because it's a one stop shop. I can workout, tan and get a massage all under one roof. They have a salt water pool, plus a hot tub.. I've never been to a class but they seem to have a lot of options. Personal training is quite expensive, but i love my trainer and wouldn't trade him for anything so to me it's worth it.0

I go to Snap Fitness. I travel a lot for work and they have a ton of locations in most states. They are open 24hrs and most of gyms have very new , quality equipment.
My home gym is Uptown, Minneapolis. It's small but has everything I need, a smith machine, squat/bench rack, enough weight, dumbbells...ect. All great equipment too and close to work.
Used to have a membership to Anytime and it was good but the equipment and facilities were not as nice and location not as good for me in most cases.
I get a deal through work so that I only pay about $10 per month.0 -
CrossFit. There's no other option for me, now that I have seen the light!0

I started at Planet Fitness but once I got much more accustomed to working out and lifting I joined a more expensive gym that offers classes (spinning, body pump, muscle confusion, boot camp etc). Also the gym is larger and there are many more weight machines and free weights. They also offer towel service and have a really nice ladies room for showering and changing. I figure since I am there every day I would spend more...and its helped. I have lost more weight being a member of this gym I really enjoy being at.0

I guess I go to a ghetto gym. lol it's a block from my house, so i know i will always go, even when it's 40 below. open 5 am to 11 pm. it's a serious weight lifting gym, the men definitely outnumber the women. not a ton of cardio machines but enough and they're never all occupied. lots of machines and a ton of free weights. incredible staff, not many classes but the ones i take are serious kick *kitten* circuit classes. they do have a dedicated yoga room if i ever want to try yoga. several tanning beds if i ever lose my mind and decide to get a tan lol. massages and strangely enough, a skincare specialist who does things like dermabrasion. kinda weird but i expect she just rents space. no track, no pool. but there's a pool with a fitness centre less than ten minutes from my house so if i absolutely have to have a track i can go there.
There's also a good life fitness pretty close to my house but that involves driving. what i love about my gym is that even if i get up too late in the morning i can still go work out because it only takes me two minutes to get there. so it's okay if i drag my *kitten* and dont get there till 6 am. i can still get home and get to work on time. i leave for work at 7 am. also, and no offense, but there arent a lot of gym barbies there. last time i tried a gym there were a lot of them and they annoyed me. it's like by their lacksadaisical slacker approach to working out they were insulting my attempts to work out hard. i know that makes no sense at all but there it is. in this gym, it's mostly just body builders. it's a nice view from the treadmill. lol0 -
I belong to the YMCA...I like it because there is a wide variety of classes and they offer later classes in the evening for us working folks that don't get home until 5:30 or 6 pm, there is a pool, hot tub, a wide variety of machines (both strength training and cardio) and most of the cardio machines have TV's on them, and there is a wide variety of people that go there so I am not self conscious.
You can go to other local YMCA's and they have an Away program and most other Y's around the country don't charge you or they charge a nominal fee to use the facilities. They are not open all night, but that is not really overly important to me.
I am working on setting up a small home gym in my basement for those times that I can't get to the Y due to other obligations so that I can work out anytime that I want. Mainly I will probably use my Wii and set up a bike trainer. If I can save the money up, I would love to get an Ellipical and treadmill for at home too. That is a ways down the road though!0 -
everyone talking abuot not being selfconscious just made me realize that i'm the fattest person at my gym. lmao i didnt even notice that and i'm the queen of selfconsciousness. oh well. the people that i've talked to have all said how wonderful they think i'm doing etc (dropped 53 lbs so far) i guess it wasn't important to me. that's hilarious.0

I have a membership to 24Hour that I never use because I love a gym near me so much better. This part won't help- it's part of a local university where I can buy passes. . but I was just thinking today that the gyms I love the most are the ones that are the emptiest when I want to go, and have the best weight training equipment.
Being open 24hours is awesome, I used to love that. There is one gym I can go to here that is open 24 hours, but in San Francisco you would not believe how many ****ty gyms I have tried that are just pathetic for people who want to weight train. It's like everyone in SF is a hippie that only believes in yoga or swimming and jogging. So annoying. I could tear most of the gyms I've been to a new @sshole, really.
Hope you find one you like!0 -
I go to Gold's, and I really love it. It's large, very nice (the locker and shower rooms are downright luxurious) and it has everything you could want in a gym. Lots and lots of nice machines with built-in TV's, a pool, a sauna, a spinning room, an awesome group exercise room with nice equipment and lots of classes available. The design of the gym is very pleasing to the eye.
It also has childcare (not that I need that), a tanning salon (don't use that either), and a smoothie/beverage bar. It's open 24 hours and always has lots of staff around.
Another great thing about it is that I can go to any Gold's across the nation.
Edit: It's open 24 hours during the week, and 7-9 on the weekends.0 -
To MMCNEIL: Wow! 20 lbs in 2.5 months?! That's amazing. Good luck and I hope you win the challenge! Sweet prize.
I have 2 friends that belong to the same gym and they love it too. It's too expensive for me though0
