I'm not losing weight like I had hoped I would after a month of intense exercise... I usually go on the treadmill for about half an hour, walking and jogging over a mile at least. Usually burn around 200 calories.... Do I need to stay on the treadmill longer to lose weight quicker?

  • Losing weight has way more to do with what you're eating than how much exercise you're doing. It is good to exercise and that can add to your calorie deficit of course, but eating healthy foods at a calorie deficit is where you will lose weight. Also, not sure what you mean by lose quickly but 1-2 lbs a week is considered healthy weight loss.
  • Well, I eat heathy, and I also lift weights. I'm aiming for 1 to 2 lbs a week. Just not seeing results. DEFINITLY gaining muscle though .

You need to switch up your work out. Treadmill is good for cardio, but you need to throw some weights in there too. Also, try the eliptical. Works your arms and legs an burns more calories than the treadmill.

I agree that food is key when trying to lose weight. Maybe it's not the length of time on the treadmill but the intensity. Also, I peeked at your profile and your ticker said you only have 6 more lbs to go. Usually those last pounds can be stubborn, and I didn't see your diary but make sure you are eating enough!

If you are gaining muscle and losing fat than the scale may stay the same even though you are making progress. Don't put too much thought into the scale. I looked at your food diary and it looks like you are often eating way short of your daily calorie goal. As long as you set up MFP right to begin with your calorie goal already has a calorie deficit built in to lose weight. You should be eating close to this goal each day. When you eat way under on a regular basis your body may start hording fat because it thinks there is a food shortage. That said, you should eat to replace the calories you burned exercising. I know this sound counterintuitive but trust what MFP is telling you. Also, you should be getting .5 to 1 gram of protein for each pound of body weight. MFP sets the amount too low.
