Hi all, I've been doing C25k for the past couple of months and I have my first 5K this Saturday. I'm looking for some tips and advice of things I should do prior to, especially the day before the race. I was thinking I would run today, tomorrow and thursday. Today and Tomorrow would be running for 3.1 miles and Thursday would be intervals of walking/jogging. Friday, I was thinking a 30 minute bike ride and definitely some resting. I'm also thinking 20 minutes of strength training each day on different areas. Does that seem okay? For my race, I'm hoping to get under 30 and not to stop. Any tips on exercise and what I should eat a couple days/day before/day of my race would be greatly appreciated. =) thanks!

Hydrate the day before. I avoid eating before running, and the night before, so that I don't feel bloated or have any prairie dogs show up during the run. Sorry -- it's not the most pleasant topic, but it's true!

HAVE FUN, KIDDO! Looking forward to hearing how it went.

I just ran my first 5K last Saturday and it was amazing! I ran my normal 3 miles on Monday and Wednesday. Took off Tuesday and Friday and half walked/ran on Thursday. It worked perfectly!!
As far as eating the day of, I ate a Chobani Yougurt about 2 hours before race time and I was good. I normally don't eat before I run, but knew I needed something.
Good luck and have a wonderful time. It went by super quick for me! I am already signed up to do another one on Fathers Day! Bet the same thing happens to you and you get 'super inspired!'

If you've been running that much all along, you should be fine. You don't want to overdo it!!! Being well rested is important. My biggest piece of advice (beyond just enjoying the race and having fun with it) is NOT to eat a big salad for dinner the night before!!! Do lots of protein and carbs, some veggies is good, but not a great big huge salad. It will give you gas like you wouldn't believe!!!!

Seriously, enjoy the moment. Get there plenty early. Make sure you use the potty a few minutes before the start (trust me) and walk a little that morning, even if it's around the venue. If you usually stretch, stretch. If you usually don't, don't. Try to do things similar to what you always do. Eat breakfast also. Nothing too heavy, but a piece of peanut butter toast, a small bowl of cereal, something with some carbs is a great idea!!!

5K's... yup I've run a few. The advice I will give you for a 5K is this. Don't change your routine or diet at all. No point in upsetting the apple cart. Changing your diet leads to stomach upset. Changing your workout routines leads to fatigue. If you do anything... I would take the day before off,and maybe walk the course. Visualize it.

Come race day, relax and remember, it's only 30 minutes of your life. Get yourself a good nights sleep and rest up.

Get up the next morning, have a light meal, get dressed and be there 30 minutes beforehand to warm up, stow your clothes etc.

    Otherwise... Just enjoy.

PS. Enjoy your run! Enjoy the cameraderie! Make some friends and have lots of fun!
