3 weeks ago my office started a little contest. 10K steps a day for 10 weeks. We have a team of 7 people and log in our steps every day. We all wear a pedometer and even have to count saturday/sundays. So far so good. It gives me incentive not to let my team mates down. Even when i dont feel like a full workout, i at least try to jump on the treadmill to get my 10k steps in. Better than nothing at all. Make sure you are fitted for a good walking shoe. I learned the hardway that every day cheap sneakers are bad for your feet.
    Good luck!!!

My employer has a walking club every Spring and they usually use a site that makes it easy for employees to log information. This year we are using "START American Heart Association" web site. The site has a cool mapping tool for creating walking paths and tracking steps (company issued inexpensive pedometers) but the food database on MFP is better (my opinion).

I was thinking about this. Starting up a mommy's walking club in my town. I was thinking picking a time three times a week and depending on how many people come have two different people each time bring water bottles and once or twice a month get together and share goals and weightloss tips with each other while enjoying healthy snacks.

    Interesting idea!
Wondering if anyone knows of a good inexpensive pedometer? I have a few that are the cheap giveaway type and I don't think they count accurately.

I haven't been able to find one that I like, I have been using my phone lately.
  • I started a women's walking group on saturday mornings at my church. it is announced every Sunday and is in the bulletin. We go for about an hour and depending on where everyone's fitness level is we may walk through the neighborhood or get more advanced and add in hills. It's a great way to fellowship and get to know other gals. (I do my 4 mile walk at 5AM so I get my good workout in before I meet up with the gals) double-bonus! :flowerforyou:
