if my net calories at the end of the day are under 1200 I need to eat something to get them there correct?

    Correct. You should try and keep your net calories at or above 1200.

    I've noticed when I'm under 1200, MFP displays a message saying I'm not eating enough and to AT LEAST get 1200 cals in. So if you're under I would definitely eat to get yourself to 1200, but try to make sure they're not empty calories. :)
