I can pretty much guarantee you that cutting carbs out of your diet will not only not help you, it will harm you in the long run. Giving up and throwing in the towel on the healthy way to do this is definitely not the answer.

Well, yeah-- and purely from a caloric standpoint, the breakfast you listed is a large portion of the caloric intake you should have for the day to lose at a healthy pace.

I once joined a gym and worked out faithfully for a month-- absolutely kicked butt. I also ate freely because I was hungrier from the workouts and believed since I exercised I didn't need to worry about calories. At the end of the month I was up 7 pounds and had a 3 percent gain in body fat.

I'm with Kerri-- carbs aren't the enemy. Exercise and counting your calories, making sure you have as healthy of a balance you can of carbs/proteins and all that jazz is the best way. Personally, I have to eat more carbs than I'd like because we're dirt poor right now and "good" food is simply out of our budget. As such, my loss is going a lot slower than I'd like, and moved in the wrong direction briefly. I'm bummed, but will press on counting calories and exercising and waiting patiently for the results.

    Hang in there--

I lost 8 pounds counting carbs but as soon as I ate normal again it came back! This will sound kinda weird but try eating at the same times everyday and eating 6 times a day -- it will feel like you are grazing for awhile but trust me when I lose weight the best I eat at the same time everyday.

Your body will prepare for the food becasue it trusts you that you are going to eat it--My trainer said it help to raise the metabolizm a great deal.

GERR the only thing i can think of that I'm doing wrong is having an off day, but i still don't go hog wild on it. Let me know if something works for you! :grumble:

You lost those pounds from glycogen and water, not fat, unfortunately.
The initial HUGE loss we see from cutting carbs is from stored blood sugar (glycogen) being broken down into glucose for energy (this is our body's source of energy). For every 3 g of glycogen lost, we lose a g of water. That results in a big weight loss.

When we eat carbohydrates again, that weight comes back. It's not fat. It means that we have to reset our 'starting weight' and keep losing from there instead of from the weight we were at when glycogen depleted.

I have done a Keto diet in the past (no carbs). It's not Atkins though; it's pretty much the South Beach without the whole grains every day. On keto, I ate no carbs during the week, but didn't eat sausage and bacon regularly either....I still stuck with a bit less saturated fat. Then on the weekend, I'd carb-load for a day, eating high carb-low fat to replenish glycogen. I'd often experience a 5-8 lb gain (of course it wasn't fat, I'd only eat to maintenance) and so does everyone else who carb-loads, whether for sports or whatever reason.

Sounds like this program isn't working for you. I did the Atkins thing a few years back & dropped 20 pounds fast. It wasn't worth it. It came back and then some. Your body needs good, high quality healthy carbs. I found an alternative that I could live with and shed pounds. Now, no dairy (whew - lactose intolerant), no flour related carbs - fruits and veggies are great, no oil, NEVER add salt to anything, no sugar (Splenda is great, though). I eat whole foods and don't typically eat processed (boxed, canned, etc) foods.

I've found myself with more energy and I am really not "hungry". I feel great. I have been accused of being an overactive cocker spaniel in my home - running here.

There are a lot of programs out there. You just need to find one that works for your body and fits your lifestyle. Don't fret, though! You can do it!

    I am trying harder now.
I do love cheese and yogurt though!!!!

I have started drinking Soy for the last year, but I cook with real cream and butter milk.
I have switched to organic juices and low to no sugar.
I eat fruits nad veggies all the time.
I try really hard to stay away from processed meals you just add water to and cook.
I eat more fish and buy hormone free chicken.

I am just really stressed. Power of att for both parents, work is stressful.
I worry all the time about things. Money?? I have some, not rich, but the economy and cutting back and all.

I exercise all the time and I have a very loving hubby and son nad great friends.

Could it all be in my head? Am I sabataging myself?

Oh geeze, where is my fairy God mother when I need one??

I read and re-read your post. I agree we all must find what works for our bodies.

As for me I am going for the healthy long term diet I call 'LIVEit!"

I am watching saturated fats, took out the white stuff (flour, sugar, pasta) added in better whole grain breads and pasta. Also the whole cream and butter will KILL ya on saturated fats. You can triple the calories and fat in a meal by adding cream/butter.

It is working for me, and not for the reason you think.

Yes I lost weight (HIP HIP HOOORAY!!!) but the best part is my health changes.
    Cholesteral 267 down to 207:happy:
with more good, less bad and great triglycerides.

My spouse has lost 11 pounds without trying. It is just the better meals he is eating, and only fruits to munch on mostly.

My son is down almost 40 pounds. :smooched:

My daughter is eating better foods.:flowerforyou:

And my oldest son was proud of my knowledge when I met the future in laws. (although I should have left the rant about diet pills back at my hotel!)

You can do this. All you need is a little tweaking...watch and see!!! :flowerforyou:

Removing an entire food group from you diet is never healthy. Switch to whole grains instead. This is especially true if you're working out/excercising. Carbs are your bodies primary energy source so ya, severely limiting them will result in weight loss, but the weight won't stay off. not even close.

  • I feel for you, I know it can be really frustrating, especially when you found out your scale fiasco. But this DOES work. Go to the success stories to see. Everyone on there is following the diet how they are supposed to. No pills, no low-carb this, or trend diet that, they are doing what we are all doing. Give it time, and do it the right way. I think you will feel better knowing you are doing it the healthy way, and when the pounds come off, you will see that.
