So, a few months ago I decided to set a goal and reward for myself.

hit 50 lbs lost and get a total makeover. (hair cute, dyed. the fun stuff)

Well, I am at 47 and am LOOSING my mind. For the past 2 weeks I have flip flopped and just missing it.
I REALLY want this makeover, bad!!! My husband said "Just do it" but I feel like thats cheating.

My kinda question is, Do yall think I am putting too much pressure on myself? This is hard enough woth out more stress added right?? And honestly I was fine before I started setting "goals".

I don't think goals are a bad idea at all.

For me, part of the reason I'm here now is that I never set them. When I wanted something, I got it. Sadly, most of the time what I wanted was nachos. It was when I started setting goals that CONTROL became part of my life. I really want new clothes, but I can't get them until I hit 20 pounds. I control when I get those clothes by how hard I work.
  • I don't think you should give up. Stick with your goal, you're sooooo close!!!!!! You can do it.

However, in the future, I don't know if goals are so great. I just blogged about that: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/mental_release/view/a-goal-achieved-may-not-be-a-goal-happy-about-111709

Goals are good. I know they make me push a little harder...and I'm not rewarding myself...I'm just celebrating the fact that I reached and surpassed one of my goals.

I've never had a makeover so you are lucky to have one...CONGRATS on your weightloss too!

Don't give up. It will be much for rewarding if you hit the goal. It will happen. Be patient and enjoy the benefits of the weight you have already lost

i set goals but i dont give myself rewards when i get them. if i feel good about what i've accomplished and how i've gotten there, then i treat myself. like my first goal was 135. but so far i've only gotten to 137. been here for 2 wks. and because i havent been hard on myself about being stuck, i've been sticking to my workout schedule and because i really needed some clothes, i went out and got a few things for me. this is hard. and i believe 47 lbs is amazing. IF you feel like its cheating, then dont do the whole makeover. get the color without the cut. or cut without the color and reward yourself in 3 lbs. but i think you deserve something you really want for all the effort you've put in to lose 47 lbs.

I would wait till you hit your goal. You are making it harde ron yourself by being so obsessive though! Seriously mello out, realize its going to take anout 2-3 weeks and by letting go of that stress you may drop that last 3 lbs quicker then you know! ALso since you said youve basically plateaud here, change up, and increase, your workouts! MAKE IT HAPPEN. If you already feel guilty THINKING about getting it done 3 lbs earlier you arent going to feel any better afterwards. Weight loss is a physical and psychological battle

Depends on the person. For some people setting goals helps them work harder...it becomes a competition for them to win. For others (like me) its stresses them the *kitten* out! LOL I had to stop making weight related goals because I would get so upset if I wasn't where I said I wanted to be by a certain time. (and then go off the handle and eat like 10 pints of ben and jerrys for weeks)

I still need goals though, or I feel lost. So now instead I try to do other kinds of goals that are still helpful for weight loss (like complete a half marathon is my current one, so I'm working towards that).

I think your putting to much pressure on yourself for those last few pounds. Maybe give yourself a little "taste" of the reward to help motivate you. You could always go get your hair done...and then when you hit 50 add in some other stuff (like get your nails done etc).

Good luck! Don't give up! :)
  • Thanks everyone. I am defintely not giving up. That is soooo not an option for me. I appreciate all the motivation from yall!!! Yall are awesome!!

Goals work differently for everyone. There's only one thing worse than not meeting your goals, and that's not having one in the first place. I personally don't reward myself, but I set my fat loss on goal dates that are meaningful, a birthday, an anniversary or a holiday. It's also important to note, that we need more measurable goals - weight is not enough. Take body measurements, try on a tight pair of jeans - who cares what you weigh if you look and feel good. You may still be 3lbs short, but you may have surpassed your inches if you took measurements when you first started. Get your makeover to celebrate your 47lbs loss and then revise your goals - that way the stress and pressure is gone and you're ready to tackle your new goals! :)

the first few, and the last few are always the most difficult, a goal is a goal and you will feel a thousand times better for achieving it. It wouldnt be ab achievement if it were easy. Keep going, well done so far, and keep smiling!!
