30DS AND gym?

Oh, look! Another 30 Day Shred thread.

OK, I just started today. I am VERY happy at how badly it kicked my a**. However, I have been wondering if it is really enough cardio or weights. Should I be going to the gym as well as doing the video?

If I DO go to the gym what should I be doing? Should I continue my usual 6 days a week with 3 days of weights and 3 days of pure cardio? Or, I could do 3 days a week with either weights or cardio.

If I choose weights, I am worried about getting too bulky. I'd like to get as lean as I can with out a lot of bulk.

These thoughts are also accompanied by my absolute fear of loose skin. I'm only 22 and at 196 trying to get down to the 135-125 area. I'm not sure how much if any loose skin I should be worrying about.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. <3

    i am also interested in if i should do other activities while doing this dvd. also i wouldnt worry about bulking up, body builders spend along time, even years trying to bulk up, i dont think you will have a problem :)
  • I'm doing other cardio with this DVD. I don't think I get enough burn with that alone...this is my schedule and it has worked for week one. (except a couple days off due to severe sunburn) :(

    Sunday: Jogging intervals and shred
    Monday: Zumba and shred
    Tuesday: Jogging intervals and shred
    Wednesday: Shred
    Thursday: Jogging intervals and shred
    Friday Zumba and shred
    Saturday: Shred

    I do cardio as well. This sounds like an AWESOME plan. I don't do it by this exactly. But I try to throw in a spin, some runs, elliptical etc. as well as shred. I have had awesome results!! Good luck

    This seems like a really good schedule. Perfect having only Shred on Sunday. Almost everything in this town is closed on Sundays. :P

    I'm just a few days in, so no expert, but i'm doing more. 30 minutes on the elliptical so far. I think you need some endurance cardio, jogging, brisk walking, intervals on the treadmill or elliptical. My muscles are screaming from Jillian at the moment, so i'm just doing 30 minutes of fairly low resistance on the elliptical. Once I am not sore any longer, I will up the resistance and/or do intervals and go up to 45 minutes. Don't want to make myself so sore I can't move. Good luck!

    As for loose skin, just don't lose the weight too quickly. A couple pounds a week and your skin has a chance to shrink!

    it was finally manageable today! yea! i got burnt on saturday fishing and skipped shred that night. then made myself do my workouts sunday, and then was in too much pain on monday and took that day off. i was pretty much back to normal today. it's still kind of tender, but at a level i can handle! ;) hope you find a good schedule that works for you!

    Artemis, I logged on from work to ask the exact same question!

    I see some are adding more cardio, but what about more weights? I want to lift 3 times a week in order to get stronger, can I lift and do the 30DS? I plan on resting between lifting days but you also use weights (light though they are) doing 30DS and I thought you always need to give your muscles 36 hours rest between session?
