Sugar in milk???

I swapped out my obsession with flavored Coffeemate, to use plain old milk. I ran out of skim, so today I'm using my son's 2%, but either way it's 12 grams of SUGAR? In milk??? It's wrecking my sugar for the say..I start off with so much. is this sugar different than other sugars? Not to be thick. It just seems odd to me.

The sugar contained in milk is lactose...basically "milk sugar" - if you're looking for a lower sugar creamer, use plain half and half. It's half cream, half milk, less sugar.0

I like the Land O Lakes fat free half and half. Also, try plain Almond Milk. So yummy!0

As far as sugar that you track, it really is only supposed to be about added sugars. You shouldn't worry about the sugar in milk or in any whole fruit (fruit in a can with syrup or fruit juice does count). I had the same thought when I started...0

Switch to Unsweetened Almond milk, for fewer calories, no fat, no cholesterol, and no sugar!0 -
but half and half is a lot more fat (except perhaps the LoL free version - which I suppose is not technically half and half then (can't imagine fat free cream :-) )
12gms of sugar in how much milk ? I think that's per cup right? certainly not in the tablespoon or two that you put in your coffee right? unless you are putting coffee in your milk and not the other way around :drinker:
back when I was still a diabetes education specialist (10 years ago since last recertified so things may have changed) we actually recommended people (when having a hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) moment) to drink a cup of skim milk then follow with a snack (such as a sandwich) if possible. The old drink was to have orange juice- which is great because it delivers the sugar - but skim milk was considered better as you had the sugar in it but also protein to help with sustained evergy levels - this seemed to reduce the spike in blood sugar and gave a more even result

I use heavy cream. Zero sugar. Lots of awesome, awesome fat.0
