dumb ? I know but if you lose lets say 7lbs should you notice somewhere that you lose inches as well or maybe one measurement is ahead of the other or one doesn't show up right away.
I have to go in to the gym for new measurements on June 17th or there abouts I can't measure myself since all that bending and measuring really throws off my results but I was just wondering.
Can you lose weight but see no change in the tape measure? I know you can lose inches without seeing the scale necessarily reflect it.
I just thought the inches were more definitive and truthful but I will take the movement inthe scale too!
And where exactly were measurements supposed to be taken?
Mine were waist, hips left and right thigh and left and right arm. MFP measures neck and chest too I think so I have to remember to tell the trainer to take those measurments too.

It may be user error but I see little changes in my inches but I have dropped almost 20 pounds. This probably varies wildly by person, depending how you carry your weight, etc. For example, I measured my upper thigh when I began and it is the same size now, 19 pounds down. Frustrating!0

Yes, you should eventually see the inches disappear but maybe not right away. Because everyones bodies store fat in different places, you may be losing weight in areas you aren't necessarily measuring. Also sometimes you build muscle but burn fat and you'll gain inches in some areas but lose in other areas.
The areas you are measuring sound fine, some people measure their calves too but I never see much of a change in mine. Same with my neck.
I usually only measure my mid-section because that's where I hold all of my excess weight. I take that about once a week but do everything else maybe once a month.0 -
This isnt to scare you at all its just reality so keep this in mind. You can lose weight by burning muscle also. So watch your cardio so you are not burning away all of the hard work you put in. So keep up the weights and balance the cardio out..Seen a barbie girl at the gym measure out with a 45% body fat but was a size 4. Have an awesome day and dont worry! You will rock it!0

My thighs are actually bigger now than they were a few months ago. But my program involves a lot of squats and my legs are pretty skinny to begin with, so I'm pretty sure it's all muscle. So I wouldn't worry if you're not losing inches in certain areas, because you could be building muscle. You should at least notice those areas are more firm.0 -
I lost 2lbs this week and no change in measurements, I didn't take measurements when I first started at 152lbs. Also as long as you always measure in the same place everytime you should be ok. I measure the widest (I hate that word...widest) part of my waist, hips and thighs.0

Yes this is very true. We had a gal that lost 7 pounds of fat and gained 3 pound of muscle....added 1.5 inches to your thighs. So you can add inches by adding muscle underneath.0 -

no I still spend time in the weight room and do free weight routine twice a week at home to cover the machines that I have no idea how to use at the gym....I do have last month's measurments and I am so anal about those sorts of things I usually make a chart to track progress. I have done it for things like blood work and cholesterol numbers and weight so I want to keep track of my measurments this way too to have it as a easy comparison sheet.
I am nerdy that way!0
