  • So...ok.. I was the same way.. at first, I took benefiber 2 times a day- it worked! Then, I started Myfitnesspal- counted calories and ate much differently. You should eat fruit- on an empty stomach- not with a meal or after either. All by it self. it really will make you poop. exercise...really, not only will it help on the outside but it helps inside too. Do go over board, just walk for about 15 minutes a day...increase when you feel you are ready. coffee...that too should make you poop.... stay away from soda..even diet. believe me you will feel lighter and have relief!

I have suffered for years with a similar situation.
Talked to my regular Dr.'s and a Gastro Doc, had a colonoscopy...all fine but put me on an expensive medicine for IBS with constipation.
Changed my Gastro Dr. this year because I didn't feel like my last one "really listened" and I didn't feel like the medicine was helping.
New Dr. did listen and basically I have what she calls "functional constipation" and my system can be somewhat sensitive. She did a stiz test all good too.
I need to increase fiber but she was the first one that said do it slowly...if you add extra fiber too quickly you can get gassy and bloated, which can be even more painful then being constipated (in my opinion) for me it's a lifestyle and diet change. She also made many other suggestions for my diet and my particular situation. I am off the medicine because she thought the dose was too high and it wasn't working for me.
She also suggested "culturelle", you can buy it at any pharmacy type store (CVS, Walgreens, etc.).
BUT before you take anything I would consult with a Gastro Dr. and make sure that there is not other issues at hand.

Most of my fam has this problem. Sluggish colon they call it. My 2.5 year old does too. My fix for him is eating apple sauce 2xs per day and OJ in the morning. It really seems to help keep him regular. He used to take MOM 2 xs a day and then would still have to have Miralax every few days. I've been told that you should not go longer than 3 days without going #2. I agree with the coffee statement as well. It really gets things mocing for DH and I both. Also, fiber one bars help me a lot! My mom takes stool softeners pretty much everyday.

First let me say this, I am an LPN, my recommendation is go see your general practitioner, today. Second, that was the way one of my nurses aides bowel habits, she went to her Dr, and he told her to start taking miralax, every day, cleared her up in no time.

This is the exact thing I was going to say. My daughter had lots of issues when she was younger and she would have to take miralax every day and it really helped. It is not a stimulatory laxative and not addictive. It is sold over the counter and you just mix it in water or juice or whatever.

I had that issue for many, many years. I thought it was normal to go maybe twice a week, and take 10-30 minutes to do so.

A few years ago, I started taking a bulk forming fiber laxative (the generic for Fibercon, I think) tablet (the capsules just made me gassy) and it helped immensely. It had me regulated to one bathroom trip every day or so. However, since I started eating many more raw foods (particularly lettuce, carrots, and almonds), there are many days I go more often than that. I also drink a ton of water.

    Hope that helps!
  • I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!
    I've always gone every 4-5 days -_-
Recently I've started drinking more water and eating prunes and dried apricots when I can and now it's more like 2-3 days.
It's difficult to keep up though because I don't really like prunes but they seem to work :-)

Girl I am in the same boat as you I went to a gastrolegist and they told me I was fine back in highschool. I went like acouple of years ago and they said the same thing. I have beenusing the Colonix system and just use that fiber mix ( in the mornning )and the tea ( at night)and I have a bowle movement every morning or sometimes twice that day when I take the 2 together or sometimes i just drink the tea (which some people may call a laxative tea) but it works. It may be our system goes every 2-3 days. lol I DK cause if you go back the doctor is gonna tell you the same thing.

But here's also what has worked for me : Pears, apples and prunes. lol
