Hi all,

I've been on MFP since the end of April, I had a day or two of binges, but I've been fairly consistent. I'm going to Zumba 2x a week (1 hour classes).

Height: 5ft 4.5
SW: 197
CW: 190.6
GW: 130

It feels like I'm not losing as much compared to others. Some MFP friends lost like 5 pounds in their first week..

What do you lovely people think?

Kayle

Are those people larger than you? That would explain their loss being bigger than yours.

There are a lot of different reasons why they may have lost more than you...but you shouldn't compare yourselves to others. People lose differently, bodies are different. What you're doing is amazing so just keep focused and you'll do great

Everyone loses at their own pace. Generally, yes, you will lose more quickly in the beginning, but it really does depend on the person. How is your water intake? It seems like you aren't really tracking that. It made a huge difference for me when I started drinking more water.

I looked at your diary. Try eating something small for breakfast. Like a piece of fruit or a fiberbar. Also try to never let your net calories fall under 1200. Your body will store the fat instead of burning it. Lastly try and get your 8 glasses of water a day. It will help flush things out. Just a few things I have found to help me. You can always take it or leave it. Dont get discouraged. You are on the right path. Just countinue the journey! Good luck!!

As long as you are losing, you are doing fine.

I am one of those people that seems to lose a bit faster and I just had this discussion with my wife this morning since I am losing faster than her. Among other things, the MFP estimate on how many calories my body uses is just a rough estimate. I'm sure people have all sorts of different metabolism rates. If MFP under-estimated how many calories I need, then that would easily explain my faster loss. On the flip-side of that same example, if MFP overestimated how much your body needs, you won't have as big of a calorie deficit.
Also, without trying to get gross, you body has all sorts of unprocessed foods in your lower intestines etc so if you start eating "normal" portions, you won't have all that extra inside you as you would with huge portions. I think that would partially explain big initial losses. Seemed to be the case for me. I used to eat way to much. My portions were triple - easy.
I'm no expert but those are just a few thoughts.
Lastly, like I remind my wife, the plan is trying to get you to lose a pound per week so if you are close to that, everything is working fine. Just be patient and the results will happen. You are doing great!

I started at 246.2 and I'm 5'9. 3 months later I now weight 195.6. A lot will depend on how much "fat" you start with, the amt of exercise you do, food choices, water intake.

Just for me I work out 6x a week about an hour eatch time

I drink 9+ glasses of water a day. (I used to only drink about 5 and it helped upping it with weight loss)

I don't have cheat days, if it doesn't work into my day, I don't eat it.

Those are just some of the things that work for me. Everyone is going to lose differently and at different speeds. The important thing is do what works for you, and makes you a healthier, happier person!

Don't compare your losses to anyone elses's. There are so many reasons why they may have lost more initially... sodium intake, TOM, lots of unhealthy foods, etc. You're losing a healthy amount of weight, so I wouldn't worry about it. Don't let other people's progress take away from your own victories.

It took me two months to lose one pound when I started, It is so true when others say everyone loses at thier own pace... My body wants to lose weight slowly, So I got rid of the scale because it was just defeating....

I try to focus on the Measuring tape and NSV's for my progress, I weigh about once every 2 weeks to a month and I use my gyms scale.

To each their own, don't judge your progress on the progress of others...

one suggestion I would make is to bump up your days of exercise... try for 3-4 days of exercise not just two.

Thanks everyone - I guess I'm just being a little impatient! I will definitely try to drink more water, but hate having to go to the bathroom every 30 mins

Totally agree. And you have to be able to stick with whatever you're doing for yourself, not for someone else. Whatever it is you're doing IS working. Keep it up You're doing GREAT!!!
Personally, I think diet is about 75% or more of what counts toward losing weight, your specific body type and makeup are about 15% and exercising is the rest. Exercising burns calories, but more than that, it gets you in shape, i.e. building/strengthening muscle, healthy heart and lungs and so on. Look at Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers, people lose weight on those all the time and I bet most of the people on those diets do little to no exercise other than walking. (Please don't hate on me for not calling walking exercise, I think its a great way to get your body healthier by moving if you don't do other strenuous activity. I enjoy a good walk as much as anyone.)

Weightloss is about patience and perserverance as much as it is about healthy eating and exercise.

    Hang in there!
