Random Thought...

(Note: this is my newest blog post, but I figured I would share with everyone else here)
Just had a random thought that I wanted to share with you all. Now i've only been "active" with MFP for about three weeks now (but been a member since '09!), and i've had success so far, but something hit me. When we start our weight-loss journey, most of us see or dream of the finish line. We don't picture what the journey along the way is going to be like. That is why there is failure. We don't realize that YES there will be bumps in the road. YES we will be tempted (and probably eat) a slice of pizza or ice cream here and there. YES there will be family events centered around food. And YES, there could even be plateaus. But you know what? Should these things happen to you - DON'T STOP. KEEP GOING. Remember kids, this is a journey, not a destination (much like they say about life....). Enjoy every day of this - even through the struggles, the plateaus, the occasional slip ups, etc, ENJOY IT. And most of all KEEP GOING.
We're all in this together.
xoxo,
KT

Why do people think eating ice cream or pizza is bad? The only thing bad about those things is over indulging in them. I know plenty of people who are in excellent shape that eat those things. They just have the discipline to eat 2 slices and stop or one small bowl of ice cream. I have lost almost 30 lbs and I still eat the occasional burger and I had a SMALL icecream scoop on a cone the other night with my girls. But the key is I had a SMALL scoop. In the past I would have had two large scoops. I am going to get down to a healthy weight and still enjoy food. I am just going to be disciplined and not over do it on a consistent basis. I may still go out and pig out on a Chinese buffett, but for the next few days I will cut back to balance it out instead of also eating a burger and fries and pizza in the following days.
I say the reason people fail is they try to cut out everything and then eventually go on a binge. Enjoy things but do it with discipline. Very few of us can go from eating foods we love to completely cutting them out for the rest of our life, unless we die and then of course it is easy.0 -
Absolutely! And this journey is not short-term, it's my new lifestyle. It's how I live now. From past experience, it's much harder to maintain than it is to lose the weight. I've lost the weight before, then eventually put it back on. Seeing the scale drop a pound gets me all excited and keeps me going. So I will intensionally splurge for the occasional event, but then back to normality the next day. And enjoy still being able to look good in my jeans.0

I'm not saying it's bad - I'd eat them every day if i could. I'm just saying that you shouldn't eat it every day. I wasn't advocating cutting out anything at all - in fact the "clean eating" principle doesn't work for everyone (myself included) because it's TOO limited. A good balance like you said is perfect0
