I read in the newspaper that they were building and opening a new store in my area. Decided I was going to go ahead and apply.

Went to the hiring place, filled out my application and they interviewed me that day. Went back the next day and was offered the job. Been with them for 5 yrs. There's a lot of bad stuff floating around about this company (it's a HUGE retailer). I can tell you that as far as retail goes - in this area - it's the best.

well, i'd like to say "long story, short", but it's not. i won't, however, bore you with the long details of how i knew my boss previous to him becoming it. anyway, i was on "maternity leave" with my last baby and i reeeeeaaaallly hated my job. my friend, who used to work for my boss, texted me saying, "too bad you're not a dental assistant because ours just walked out on us." i replied with, "i'm a quick learner." she said, "he said to get your scrubs on and get your a** over here." i was like, "you're kidding, right?" she answered, "um, no. he's serious. he's stuck and needs someone." the rest is history. i threw on a pair of scrubs (i worked in the medical field for several years so i had a closet full) and drove over there. mind you, i had NOT ONE TINY BIT OF EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER in the dental field. i totally winged it. sucked out that saliva like a pro (well, a pro who accidentally 50 times nearly sucked down someone's tongue & tonsils). i went back one more day and decided i liked it. i pretty much told him to hire me so i could quit my stupid job - and he did. i got on-the-job training with him, and got my radiology certification. i thought it would be weird working for someone i knew, but it's just the opposite. and i really love the other two girls who work there - NO drama like there was at my previous job working with 24 other females. YUCK!

You have the best job in the world as far as I'm concerned. I wish I had kept that job many years ago. At the time, "housewives" were looked down on and considered lazy leaches. I caved to societies pressure and joined the work force as soon as I got the kids in school. I wish now I had kept taking care of my family and home.

I was laid off from a job I hated. Right before my unemployment ran out, my boyfriend's buddy called and needed someone to do the books for his company. I was perfect fit. I've been there two years and I love it.

I moved back to Baltimore after living in Richmond for 2 years. I applied to every ad I found. Eventually, my current job called me (Full Charge Bookkeeper). I went in for the interview, then a second interview, took an aptitude test and beat out about 6 other people. I later learned that I the other applicants had much more experience that I did but I guess he saw something in me that he liked. I wouldn't say it's the job of my dreams but its up there. Its a small company - only 5 of us - so it's very "family" like. I make the best salary I've ever had and the job comes with many perks. My insurance is paid for 100%, a free membership to both Costco and BJ's, he buys us lunch all the time, and has even given us $100 each a few times to go to the casino with "just cause". I've been there for close to 2 years now and am so blessed to have gotten this job.

I wor at one of the state prisons. I had a great interview, but it didn't hurt that most of the people didn't show up to the interview due to a major ice/snow storm. THe power was out at the prison and all over the community, so they had tons of call ins. Me showing up for an interview in that crap paid off :)

Been in the furniture trade (manufacturing) for the last 24 years. Got my current job 13 years ago after I split from my then wife. I think they were intrigued to the application from someone who lived 150+ miles away. Had an interview at 6am on a Monday, got offered the job & as they say the rest is history. Love the job I do as a wood machinist, CNC operator/programmer hate the company I work for.
  • I am currently a Med Tech at an Senior Assisted Living Facility most of the seniors their have dementia. I have been working there for over a month. I was working for a crappy collections agency(turns out i'm not a sit for 8 hrs type of girl) so i quit and got the job as a med tech. when i interviewed they liked that i had previously also worked as a AMAP(med cert) with an agency that houses developmentally disabled adults. so i was hired within 2 days from the interview.

I'm loving this job but it is also difficult but fun(since it turns out i know a few people there). since i'm used to giving only 9 guys meds within 2 hrs vs. now giving 30 people their meds. with in 2 hrs. but i'm getting my routine down so my job is getting easier and less stressfull.

The company i worked for went into administration one morning & i was left sitting with my wage packet for the week & jobless. Luckily it was jobs day in the local paper so i sat & applied to everything i was qualified for.
3 days later i got a phonecall for an interview for a alternative clothing store. I think what got me the job was what happened before the interview started. It was being held at a hotel,i got thete early & thought i'll just nip to the ladies to freshen up etc Just as i'm washing my hands a lady comes out of the cubicle & said 'you here for the intetview?' grabbed my wrist & dragged me off to the interview. As i went to shake the Directors hand i realised i had'nt dried my hands without thinking i said 'i'm sorry my hands are wet i've just been to the toilet'! Luckily everyone laughed, the intetview went well & i've been with the company for 5 years

I was working part time at a group home providing support to individuals living with brain injuries and was reading the classified ads and told a co worker about a job post and told her to apply for it. She turned around and dared me to apply for it.... 10 years later here I sit. I guess I won the dare! The bast part is I love my job!

  • I'm self employed and run my own business and have been since I was 21.
I think youth and naivety made me fearless, I hadn't even considered what would happen if i couldn't get the work done and not pay for rent/food. I just believed that if I worked hard and pushed as far I could, working all hours if needs be then good things would come of it and I would be fine.... it turned out to be true.

10 years on I don't think i would so casual about it now. But I absolutely love my job, love being the boss even through all the twists and turns.

It was the best decision I ever made. :-)
