If MFP allows me 1400 calories a day and I burn an average of 700 calories through exercise and other activities, then ideally how many calories should I be consuming?

    Are you losing or maintaining?
  • I try not to use my exercise calories and I remember there was controversy here on the boards before about needing more calories after you burn them. So, yes, no more than the 2100 max. It's nice to be able to keep track of it all.

I saw a debate on this a few days ago.. Most people "saved" and did not consume the added calories from exercise..

You can try not to eat them if you want to but you might find you will stop losing--your body will go into starvation mode! If you are allowed 1400 a day then MFP has already deducted 500 from what you would need to maintain which is evidently 1900. So if you don't eat them, then your intake for the day would be 700 calories. You take in 700 calories alone each day and you will go into starvation. You can play with it though, maybe eat 1/2 of them if it makes you feel bad.

The way MFP was designed to work: 2100 cals. If you want to eat more or less thats up to you (people on here fight to the death over this issue) but this site is designed for you to eat back your exercise calories.

thank you all so much for the input! I have been eating the exercise calories because if I don't then I find myself starving!
