Hello all My name is Nick and my wife and i are here trying this because i have had a scare in recent weeks. I am 380bs 6'3" and turning 30 in a month. I encourage anybody to help with tips and advice for us to read and use. The biggest problem i have is to large of portions, i don't really get cravings (yet). I am worried that we are being to disciplined right off the bat by cutting to many calories. I don't want to have that dreaded metabolism slow down but from what i understand that shouldn't really happen until i have ran out of easy to burn fat which i have quite an abundance of. So anyway my whole diary is left open for now so i can get input on meals and whatnot from whoever would be willing to give some friendly advice. Thanks

Welcome to MFP and sorry for the scare you had!!

The best advice I can give you or anyone is to go at this slowly...baby steps. Don't jump in with both feet. Take one or two aspects and work on those. Get them down to where its a habit and then, move onto something else. Doing this will keep things from becoming so overwhelming and the end result is a better habit than before.

    Add me if you want.

    Best wishes!!! :)

Weigh your food. Use measuring cups for everything. Baby steps. Make it a lifestyle, not just a diet. Don't deprive yourself of things, just reduce how much you have. 1 ice cream sammich is just as delicious as 5, without the unflattering side effect (speaking from personal experience there!).

Most importantly, be patient. You didn't gain it overnight, you won't lose it overnight.

    Welcome!

One day at a time and if that gets to be to much break it down from there..Stick with it and if you fall of the wagon just get back on. Best of Luck..add me if you would like..and remember diet isn't everything..you need to get out there and work out, walks and whatever else you can do..
  • I started on Myfitnesspal a few months and it has totally changed my perspective. I had no idea I was over eating by 2-3000 calories a day! Being on a diet doesn't mean you have to eat less.. just change WHAT you are eating. I changed to diet soda, vegies and nuts for snacks, less butter and other condiments on my meals, home cooking more, and cutting out fatty foods. i also keep healthy snacks with me at all times: for those cravings or just when iam hungry. I changed my McD's breakfast sandwiches to fruit in the morning. I still eat relatively the same amounts, just healthier foods.
