HELP - What am I doing wrong now????

Right - I'm starting to get a little disheartened! Over the last year I've lost 49lb - didn't particulary find it that difficult at all. I then decide that I need to tone up, so I buy Insanity! I'm coming to the end of week 2 and I am absolutely loving it!
In the first week I put on a pound - so I thought could be I'm not eating enough calories (have that problem quite often) or perhaps I'm not drinking enough water as I do struggle to drink my recommended quota as it is now winter in Australia, I tend to reach for a hot drink rather than water.
So this week I had upped my calories, drank lots more water and bugger me I put on another pound!!!
Admittedly, I can start to see my body starting to get more refined as we speak, even after 2 weeks, so can it really be possible that the 2lb weight gain is down to building muscle? Aren't you supposed to lose weight and tone up when using Insanity? I suppose if I am only going to do one or the other, I would rather tone up than lose more weight, but I am starting to get really frustrated trying to shift my last 7lb - or as the case is now - 9lb!
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong!!! :flowerforyou:

You look fine, you said you want to tone up. What does toning up have to do with how much you weigh? nothing really. Your weight can fluctuate as much as 5lbs a day, the previous poster said that you need to pay attentoin to muscle mass and fat mass. There is a difference.0 -
Hey Lynn,
Ok so you gained two pounds, but youa re noticing a change in the mirror right? This happens with strength training.
while a "pound is a pound" a pound of fat takes up more "volume" then a pound of lean muscle mass. This is why when people start doing strength trainin they often tell them go by Mirror results, not Scale results.
Take me for instance, I started working out...bamn five pounds gone, I have gained a couple of back....But I just finished two weeks of cardio and strenth training, I am seeing a change in my body, stomach smaller, chest and arms slightly bigger, legs more defined.
So if I were you I would not "panic" about scale results, go by mirror results, continue the program you are doing and eat healthy, it will take time for results, but then you will examine a picture from the beginning and then teh end of the workout and you will see the results of the new definition.
Keep going and don't stress over the numbers. The best thing about strength training it burns calories "longer" and in recovery mode, so while the impact is not immediate, it is longer....much like a sprinter and a distance runner.
So keep going! Stay positive0 -
I agree with the others..muscle will count towards your weight too. Don't just think about the pounds..think about overall health and fitness. You're seeing a difference in your body and that's fantastic!! That's the most important, and as long as you know you're doing the right things, a little bit of weight put back on due to muscle-building is completely expected. Don't be discouraged! You're on the right track!0
