How goes is yoga for losing weight and/or toning your body - should I incorporate yoga into my exercise plan 3 days a week?

Yes, do it. It's amazing. It's hard work but it will tone you (and slim you!) like really nothing else. Plus, it's surprisingly relaxing especially after you have been doing it for a while. Also, flexibility is a huge part of being in shape and healthy.0

I could not say enough good things about yoga! It is SO good for you in so many ways! There are lots of different kinds and they all have benefits, if you're looking for weight loss you're probably going to want to look into vinyasa or ashtanga style yoga. But for toning any kind of yoga is going to be amazing0

I do weight training and lots of cardio during the week, but I always try to make time at least one day a week for the "daily dozen" yoga poses (I totally bought the Yoga for Dummies video, and it is awesome ). It's great to incorporate because it stretches the muscles (which helps them develop properly) and does do a lot for toning. Plus, as mentioned before, flexibility is a very important (and generally vastly underrated) part of being fit and expanding your 'quality' living years.
In short, that's a big "yes" vote from me0 -
Yes add the yoga. It has many benefits- probably wouldn't cause the same weight loss as other things if it is used in isolation, but when combined it is definitely very helpful.0

Do you have a Netflix membership? Because there are so many forms of yoga - I would rent a few from Netflix or your library first. This will help narrow the field a bit.
You might check out ExerciseTV and/or Hulu.com to try their yoga workouts. I love yoga - but I'm too cumsy to do the really flowing ones. Good luck!0 -
If yoga sounds even remotely interesting to you then most definitely GO FOR IT! I practiced yoga at a local gym two days a week for two and a half years and really loved it. It will tone you nicely if you do it consistently. In fact, I stopped my weight training regime because yoga gave me plenty of hard work in that area just using my body as resistance. The key is in finding a good instructor who will work with you and challenge you. Otherwise it's just a nice stretching class. I quit going about a year and a half ago due to various reasons and I miss it horribly. When I quit going my waistline began to "puddle". Plus, I find that I don't handle stress as well as I did when I was practicing yoga. I recommend giving it a try and seeing for yourself. Yoga isn't for everyone, but if you want it to work for you then it will. Just don't give up if the moves seem too hard at first. It's amazing how quickly your body adjusts. Good luck and enjoy!
