Adipex?

I went to my doctor today and he said I was an excellent candidate to take adipex. I'm nervous about it. I've taken it before and lost like 30 lbs, but that was 4 years ago. I'm at my heaviest now, and I know that with my job at a gym, the working out part is no problem, I'm mostly trying to focus on my diet. I remember not sleeping well, and feeling sick when I over ate. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried adipex?

I have tried it and lost about 9 lbs in a few weeks, but I stopped taking it because of the headaches and crazy mood swings. My best friend, however, has been taking it for a while now and does not have the same side affects that I did. Actually, she's super close to her goal weight now. I think it just depends on your body and how you react to it.0

i too have been on it. for me it was like the equivelent of drink 80 cups of coffee. i didn't want to sleep, or eat, i was bouncing all over the place and I con't contain all my energy. hated it. dropped about 20 pounds but as soon as I came off it, It all came back plus another 20.0

I have a question for yall on adipex.... did you set up an appointment by saying that you were interested in taking adipex? or did your doctor recommend it to you? I want to try it because I know many people who have lost weight with it, but I don't know if its "proper" to say "hey, I want to take this medication!"0

I have been on it for 82 days. I only take a half of a pill each day. The first week I lost about an hour of sleep each night, that was it. I am working on changing my eating habits and have started exercising 3 days a week.
My husband is also taking it. Between us we have lost almost 90 lbs. in less than 3 months. He is taking a full pill and has had no side effects.
Having said all of that, be careful. If your heart races or you can't sleep then your not getting healthy just smaller. This was last minute attempt to avoid gastric by-pass. I am happy with my results at this moment. In a year I would feel more prepared to offer a better response.0 -
I just made an appointment to discuss weight-loss options with my family doctor. Then once I had him in the room, I told him I was interested in Adipex (phenermine) and I qualified because of my BMI being over 30. The first 2 days I felt like I was flying, but with all things what goes up must come down, and the only side effect I have now ( 3 weeks later) is dry mouth.. Not too bad though...I love it! Lost 12 lbs.0

Ok SO Adipex (aka Phentermine) Is a very good diet AIDE. WHen you either have alot to lose (like you do) and/or have a very hard time controlling your intake/cravings. It should be used in conjunction with changing your dieting habits and increasing your excercise. If you dont learn good heabits and healthy portion control while on it then you will gian as soon as you stop.
OK THAT being said! Yes I have used it. Yes I LOVE it (oh yes I said LOVE it) I have been on it 3 times
Time #1 Lost 60 lbs in 3 months. Took me 3 years and a pregnancy to gain it back (and post partum depression while being an emotional eater)
Time #2 Post partum (baby couldnt breast feed so not an issue there) lost 15 lbs in 3 months because when I ate I ate like crap. Obviously gained it back quickly.
Time #3 AFTER my son turned 1 and I was heavier then the day I delivered him. Lost 10 lbs on my own. 43 lbs on 3 months of Adipex (including 3 sinus infections so bad I could only eat yogurt, ice cream and popsicles aka diet killers) as well as learning better eating habits (and devoting myself to it) and increasing my workouts (started with a 2 hour walk 3x a week). I am STILL LOSING after stopping it because I changed my habits.
Now, Have I made the mistake of having a coke or starbucks in the morning with my adipex? yes! And thats usually when Im forbidden from ever touching caffeine again.... I ping off the walls so bad my mind can barely slow down to process a thought and I talk so fast an auctioneer would have a hard time following me... So I rarely do it (still made that mistake on mornings I was really dragging) Yes it can make your heart race. YES YOU NEED TO DRINK MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF WATER WHILE ON IT. that being said if you dont get your water intake and some excercise in you wont sleep.... at all.... after about 2 weeks on the pills. It CAN raise your BP, hence why you can only be prescribed so much at a time then have to be seen for a new script. Your Dr should get baseline bloodtests prior to starting you on it.
My prescriber was my wonderful OBGYN uncle (specializes in infertility) and unfortunantly for him I was living and working with him at the time. Oh did he know when I had caffeine! All day and night! He also knew how much water I was drinking because of the poor water cooler in the office So he had no issue when I asked for new scripts post partum. He actually thought I was already on it when I lost the first 10 lbs on my own with round 3
When going to your Dr. Schedule an appt to discuss weight loss/nutrition. Tell him/her you had heard of phentermine and what their feelings are on it (some Drs dont like to prescribe it) if they are on the fence tell them you would rather go through them then a weight loss clinic since you already trust them and that should seal the deal.
**Edit: The inital 10 lbs is more of an estimate but about there, i didnt have a faithful scale at that point so my MFP stats start at 258 when I started round 3 of adipex**0
