  • Yes, and they taste just like rice noodles. The only bad part is that they smell "fishy" when you open the package. Rinse them very well, and the smell goes away!

I couldn't bring myself to do it for pasta dishes, though I did come close. I wound up going with Dreamfield's pasta, which is real pasta but low effective carbs so my blood sugar doesn't freak out. I know folks who really like the tofu shirataki with non-Italian-type dishes, and I'm tempted to try them for that.

You may like them, give 'em a shot!

They have a chewy texture to them. Almost like calamari. So if thats an issue then you won't like them. However, if you rinse them, boil for one minute and then dry they don't really taste. They pick up the flavor of the sauce well (especially anything that is like a cream based sauce).

I have looked for them in my grocery store. They do not have them (Kroger and Wal Mart). Where have you found them?

I purchase Shirataki noodles in the Chicagoland area at the local Asian Market and even the local health food store. They are basically like the rice noodle. I use one package per person. The noodels I buy here are packed in a liquid and it does have a 'fishy' odor. I just put them in the collandor and wash them off really good. I did try it once as a replacement in a pasta dish, but it was not for me. I use them in mostly Asain dishes, like curry . They are pretty much flavorless on there own, so whatever you put on them, that's what they end up tasting like.

I LOVE them. I like the angel hair the best because they don't feel as "chewy", but the regular spaghetti noodles are yummy too. Once you rince and boil the noodles, the smell completely goes away. I love them with organic spicy vodka sauce or tomato and basil marinara. Plus, you can't beat 40 cals for an entire package

I don't mind them, either - but my husband and kids would prefer NOT to eat them. :) I agree with the other comments about the "chewy" texture - I think rubbery would be a good description. I live in PA and can find them in Wegman's and Giant (organic food sections - they're refrigerated!).
  • My husband does a low carb diet and really loves using them in place of normal pasta. I agree with previous posters that you just need to rinse and boil them to get rid of the fishy smell.

We've found them at Whole Foods (for a pretty decent price) and our local co-op.

I absolutely LOVE them. I eat them almost every day! Have you ever heard of Hungry Girl? she has great shiratake noodle recipes that are extremely low in calories and they are delicious!
