I ran my first 5k this weekend. I couldn't have done it without my 12 yr old daughter "Baby Girl".

See, she has been my inspiration for my weight loss. 2 years ago "Baby Girl" was diagnosed with a very rare bone cancer in her pelvis.

They removed the golf ball sized tumor and half of the right side of her pelvis bone. No chemo was needed. They never replaced the 13 cm of pelvis bone they took out.

They told us she would never walk normal again... Within 6 months she was walking normal. Then they told us that she would never walk over 2 miles without use of a cane. This summer, she began to walk 3 miles with me and never needed a cane. Then they said that she could never run over a mile without use of her cane.

This past Saturday Baby Girl ran in the 5k and beat me by 10 minutes!!!!!

I took off from the start line so overcome with emotion that she took off without looking back at me runnining this race that I had to stop running and just cry for a bit while I walked. Then I ran. I tried to catch up to her but I never found her.

Just knowing all she has overcome this past 2 years and knowing she was ahead of me gave me the strength to carry on. I was the fattest woman in the race but I didn't finish last. I ran past all the skinny people walking.

I overcame asthma and 28 lbs to be able to be in the race. It was so emotional and inspirational. I couldn't wait to share it with all of you. :flowerforyou:

Thanks for reading about my amazing day.

My wife ran her first 5k this weekend as well. We drove to the beach in the rain and watched her start and then took shelter and waited while they all ran into the distance. Check out her new blog

She is the main reason I wanted to get back in shape. I am impressed by your story and I think it is good you have a training buddy:smile: After watching my wife run I decided that I was going to try a race at the end of October. I have to get busy training for it now. I have started adding some running into my treadmill sessions. It is kind of exciting now I have another goal for which to train. You and your daughter keep running those races.

What a wonderful story-- thank you so much for sharing it with us. Personally, it makes me ashamed of how often I grumble about my life's little problems-- financial issues pale in comparison with what you and your daughter overcame with her illness. And to have roared back with such an accomplishment is truly inspiriing.

Thanks so much for the dose of perspective-- and God bless you both!!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
  • That is so wonderful!!! You brought tears to my eyes. You are a great mom I can tell. Keep up the great work.

This is a great story on so many levels, but if I were you, I'd work very hard to get fit and stay healthy. Baby Girl is going to continue to do amazing things with her life, and you're going to want to be around to watch.

Congratuations on your race! Congratulations on your fantastic, tenacious daughter.

Awesome story!! It is so amazing what we can do in the face of the can nots. There is no bigger thrill then the thrill of overcoming what someone says we can not do. My mom is my inspiration when I think I can not. Congratulations to you and your "baby girl".
