Is or has anyone taken Effexor XR?

Hello! My doctor perscribed me Efferor XR for my depression. I have only been taking it for a few weeks now. My question has anyone had any success with weightloss while taking it or did you end up gaining weight? I have tried a couple of other antidepressants. I have been on Zoloft and Wellbutrin SR and XL. With both I ended up gaining weight even though I was exercising. My doctor also perscribed me Phentermine 15mg to take if I still ended up gaining during the first month. I have yet to even fill the perscription for that one. I have been on Phentemine before and had excellent weightloss but ended up gaining it all back after I stopped taking it. I just need some feedback on the Effexor XR and if anyone has had success with it, but any other feedback would be excellent too!

Is your reason for taking this to treat depression or for the weight loss side effect? If it's for the depression, then you take it and deal accordingly with any weight issues that come along. If the purpose is strictly for the weight loss, then I suggest not taking medications unless your in a position where your health is in immediate danger due to your weight. And I STRONGLY urge you to avoid the Phetermine. I've known several people who have used it. Yes, they lose lots of weight, but it comes right back and there's no possible way to live a healthy lifestyle taking it. Also, the possible long term risks of that stuff is terrifying!!

I was prescribed Effexor for depression about 5 years ago. The only thing I remember is that I gained a little weight with it. I'm not sure if it was the drug or if it was because I was eating too much. It was a long time ago. The thing with SSRI's is that it is different for everyone. For example: I am taking Wellbutrin now and I have not lost weight with it but I read that a lot of people do lose weight while on it. I've tried a whole bunch of SSRI's and with I think with most of them I gain weight. I wish I was one of the people who would lose weight but I'm not.
I didn't know that the doctor could prescribe something for weight gain while on medication. She never ever mentioned anything about that even though it was making me more depressed that I was gaining weight.

Im taking it strictly for the depression. My doctor was trying to find a antidepressant that wouldnt cause me to gain anymore weight. Im not going to take the Phentermine at all. Im going to stick with MFP and eating healthy and working out. I go back to see the doctor at the end of the month to do a recheck to see how I am doing with the Effexor.
