Water Weight Dilemma

Options
Please help me! Over the weekend I indulged a bit but did not go over 2000 calories on Saturday or Sunday, just bad choices. I was up 3 pounds when I checked on Monday. Then, a few of us went out for Mexican on Wednesday and I went up another pound, so I'm now up 4 pounds. I've been drinking tons of water, exercising (weight lifting, intervals, cardio), and back to my normal eating habits. None of the water weight seems to be going away. I know there is NO WAY I gained 4 pounds, but sometimes when I gain water weight, it doesn't go away for weeks. Does anyone have any tips? Did I actually gain this weight even though it is calorically impossible? Is there anything I can do?

I am fighting with the water weight myself. I am curious to hear what others might suggest for us. I am up 2 lbs this week due to water. I do find eating water foods like watermelon, putting lemon in my water, etc. really helps me release water throughout the day. You might try something like that.

I have been having the same problem and I went to my doctor. She has ordered some blood work to see what is going on. You may need to consult yours as well. Good luck

Same thing happens to me when I get more carbs or salt. It will come off, just get back on plan. We have had company here this week and I"m up a good 3-4 pounds. I have been over calories some but not that much and also had mexican last night. I have been at this long enough to learn not to stress about it.

Make sure your getting enough Fiber, and if your going to eat a heavy meal try drinking a glass of high acidic juice. e.g. Grapefruit, or Orange juice. Correct Digestion of food is a big important point in losing weight. :)

I've noticed that lots of water weight takes up to 2 weeks to come off. I gained like 5lbs in one night after going to the casino buffet and it took me 5 or 6 days to take it off.

Stick with it, you'll see it come off!!!

a good key to shedding the water weight, is to keep low sodium. try to shoot for no more than 2400 mg a day of sodium. the sodium try to cling and hold onto that water.

My trainer told me we are supposed to consume no more than 2000 mg of sodium a day. Your body stores the water under your muscles and in your fatty tissue. When I was just going by my calorine intake I was losing slowly. You may want to check your sodium intake. I lost alot of weight just reducing my sodium. Just something to think about.

I know I'll get criticized, but when I'm feeling bloated from water, I just take a diurex pill before bed. I dunno, it works for me!

I should add that I almost NEVER go over on my sodium. But I do drink 12-16 glasses of water a day...

That is also what my doctor said to me. When I went in I took the printout of my journal with me and she said that some days my sodium intake was high and to cut down on the sodium. If you eat on the run a lot this results in a lot of sodium intake.

I have found that when I splurge to much and gain a few lbs of water weight that even though I up my water to like 16-20 glasses it still takes a few days to release all that water. That salt does not wanna go anywhere so it fights to stay in your body which makes you weigh more until it can be filtered through the body. Next time you eat mexican try drinking at least 4 glasses of water while your there and see if it helps. And no you did not gain 4 lbs over a week. In order to gain one pound you have to take in 3500 calories so times that by 4 and that would be 14,000 calories so not you did not eat that many calories. Try not to splurge again for a bit so your body can get rid of all that salt.

During our move from Colorado to Texas we were kind of forced to eat the majority of our meals out for about 1.5 weeks, I gained 5 pounds but I knew it was mostly water because I normally have bony feet but my feet were so swollen they looked like sausage links, anyways I cut out the restaurant food completely and within about 4 or 5 days the weight was gone, I believe it takes about that long for things to move through the body.

This post was soooo needed! Thank you for posting it! I recently began suffering with swollen feet and ankles from water retention. It's just about scared me straight and a major reason for starting this site with my friend!!!! I spent a lot of time searching the web for all types of resolutions and my doctor has also scheduled some blood work, just to be sure there aren't other things going on in the body! Everything I've read says pretty much what has been offered as suggestions here in the replies!!! That gives me a lot of comfort being apart of MFP!!!
