Brown Rice is a pure whole grain....there's nothing wrong with having whole grains in your diet. In fact, most people need MORE whole grain in their diets.0

I agree with Dayzee..stick with brown rice and you'll be fine!0

I agree, it's perfectly fine to have a bit of brown rice, but don't overdo it.0 -
I personally disagree with the idea of giving things up, especially things you really enjoy. Besides, there's no need to! Just make sure to measure how much you're eating, count the calories and make sure to stay within you limit. And yes, brown rice is healthier, but it doesn't mean you need to gie white rice up0

Stick with brown rice and remember just one word - moderation0

Brown rice is better for you - less processed. You could try for more brown rice. Make sure your portions are under control.
That said - I don't think rice is the worst thing in the world. It's a daily staple for billions of people.0 -
Since i have been watching what I eat I sometimes mix my brown whole grain rice with white rice. I just love white rice. Not giving it up. Just dont eat too much. And watch what sauces, sugars and oils you are adding too it. My favourite food is sushi and I still eat it sometimes.0

How is it that there's an entire culture (asian) that eats rice with pretty much every meal and they are slimmer than most western cultures? I'm not saying that they may not have other health issues egneraly speaking, but I really don't know. All I know is that growing up with a Korean mom, I had white rice ALL the time. There was never a day where there wasn't some warm white rice in the rice cooker. I mean, as far as i know most asians aren't like diabetic or particularly unhealthy.
I'm curious about this. Anyone know?0 -
I still eat some white rice during targeted carb refeeds. The big thing is portion control. Rice is a very dense source of carbohydrates and it can be easy to overestimate portions.0

Before I started to eat healthy, I would always say, I could never give up rice, any kind! I loved it all! but now I rarely eat it at all but thats more because I eat so much of everthing else that I dont have the calories left for rice *sigh* oh well! lol but I still have a little here and there if I have the calories left for it0

I have a Japanese friend who gave me some insight on this, she says they have very little bowls where they put their rice that they will be eating with their meal. This bowl is small and you never overfill the bowl, in other words, portion control0 -
First of all a billion Chinese people can't be wrong.
Ok all joking aside I was shocked at the numbers when I compared brown and white rice. The calories looked about the same to me until I read carefully the recommended serving size for white rice was half that of brown for nearly the same calories. I am switching to brown.0 -

A personal insight: Growing up in the Philippines, we ate rice all the time (breakfast, lunch, dinner). I still do, though not in the same quantities as before. Yet, most remain "slim". Most folks there do a LOT of walking by necessity, since owning a car is a luxury and most just use public transportation. All the daily movement and walking would burn a lot of calories, plus the amount of stress in everyday life is higher in my opinion plus it is so hot there. Another factor is the cost of living is different, so the amount of food and portion sizes are made smaller to keep the cost down. I remember when a half chicken and 4 cups of rice would feed our family of 5. Now it is just a single meal for one person. Or it could simply be that the bodies are just different is some way that it is not designed to be large (most of the time. I really don't know...
