So, I am going gluten free due to a recommendation from my doctor. I have eczema on my face that I used to be able to control with steroid creams, but I would like to stop using them due to the longterm effects that can happen. Anyone else out there with experience and tips?

If you follow a primal/paleo lifestyle, that will be easy to do. If not, there are lots of gluten free products on the grocery store shelves these days, esp. in the "natural" or organic sections.

I would stay away from things like bread substitutes and such. They don't taste very good and have waaaay more calories. Grains are good though. I LOVE brown basmati rice. Bulk up on your veggies, you won't miss a thing. It does take getting used to though!

Most grocery stores post tabs on what products are gluten free now (my city market does this), this helps make choices a little easier. They also sell gluten free breads in the frozen section. I would do research online and look for books. Oh, and there are tons of gluten free cook books out there now a days. I bet they will give you tons of ideas!!

Gluten free items off the shelf tend to be crazy expensive. The primal/paleo thing is probably a much more viable option.

Google Mark's Daily Apple for a good place to start.

My sister and niece have Celiac Disease and I've become VERY familiar with GF...watch out for hidden sources of gluten including soy sauce and malt and be prepared to forgo pre-packed rice and pasta dishes. If you're looking for bread, by FAR the best options are Rudy's and Udi's. Avoid all the rest...they're horrible and you'll just waste your money. Good luck!
