I think I've seen this asked before but I can't seem to find the postings. I've been steadily losing weight (between .8 pounds and 1.5 pounds a week). This week I've been staying under my calories and burning close to 450 calories a day.. Well, I haven't noticed any weight loss despite my efforts (though I do feel a hell of a lot fitter haha.)

Well, yesterday I ate SO poorly; I'm talking fried chicken, pasta salad, ice cream, LOTS O CANDY, ect.. This morning I get on the scale and I'm down .8 pounds for the week.

My question is: Had I not eaten so poorly would the scale have shown a bigger loss? OR did the loss finally show up because I went off my diet for a day?

Lastly.. Should I record this new weight or am I just waiting on my body to recognize all the poor things I ate and add on some fat?

Thank you SO MUCH for opinions.

If you didn't drink much water yesterday you could be dehydrated which is causing the loss. I'd wait it out a couple days to take the scale seriously.

i have discovered that the body is just weird. you probably really lost that weight and its probably because you did a quicky zig zag on it which helps the body kick start again during a plateau. record the loss, your not gonna gain back any lbs from not eating well for a day! :)

It's akin to a free-day, shocking your system back into believeing that you are not on a diet. It's a good thing to do once in a while. Dont' sweat it. As for the weight loss, if it was your regular weigh-in day, you should record it. It's probably a real loss. And so what if you record a loss and then next week it's gone or you havve a small gain? It's more important to always record a weight consistently, up or down, on the same day each week, or every two weeks, whatever your weigh-in interval is. That's the best way to be able to go back and look at your data and see what worked (or didn't work) for your particular journey.

The best thing I did for weight loss was to throw out the scale.

...actually, I pushed it through the band saw then threw it out the window, and ran it over with the Snapper a few times.

Weight loss does not occur in 24 hour cycles. You are associating your day to day experiences with day to day scale fluctuations, when in fact the loss you see today might reflect something that you did 2 or 3 days ago. That's why if you weigh yourself every day, you really have to have the discipline to keep the right perspective.

the same thing happened to me... i lost .5 pounds after not going to the gym for 3 days and over eating those days as well... about a month ago i didnt work out at all and ate right on day and i lost a pound that day... i think it happens to some people. don't let it become a habit obviously but i think that going over every once in a while by a few hundred could be beneficial. i'm not a doctor or anything obviously, but the same thing happened to me and thats the only way i could make sense of it
