    I live in a village called Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight, don't know how old it is, but there is a Roman villa here built around 170 AD, the Saxons defeated the locals and took over the Island in 530 AD , we were the last part of the country to convert to Christianity in 686 AD and William the Conqueror visited the castle here in the village in 1085, the Island became part of England when it was sold to Edward 1 in 1293, in 1377 the French invaded and laid siege to the castle. 1633 Ships leave from near here to colonise Maryland,America. In 1642 during the civil war, the King, Charles 1, was held prisoner here in the castle, and eventually taken from here to be executed in London,his daughter, Princess Elizabeth died in the Castle aged just 14, 1817 Keats wrote about Bowcombe Down just up the road "A thing of beauty is a joy forever . . ."


    it's a lovely place, with a ton of history but I bet you never heard of it before lol
