I just had two epiphanies during my work out. The first was quite a surprise. My ankles were still hurting from my Zumba-thon on Wednesday, so I decided rather than two 30 minute sessions on the challenging difficulty I would do sixty minutes of box-fit at light intensity. Surprisingly, I wound up burning almost twice the calories as normal, and I still felt as though I really could just keep going. So I am thinking about changing my routine sessions to sixty minutes at the moderate intensity. Any thoughts?

My standard week is three days of Biggest Loser on the Xbox Kinect, with 30-60 minutes of Zumba on Kinect on my days in between BL days. I am doing an 8 week fitness program. Generally, on Biggest Loser, I alternate between box-fit and circuit training for my first 30 minutes, which I then follow up with 30 minutes of either yoga or Pilates, all of which I have been doing at the challenging intensity.

Oh and the second epiphany... I REALLY need to get my carpet deep cleaned >_<

It really depends on the type of work out you are doing. Yoga will not burn as many calories in a shorter time span like 30 minutes as something more aerobic like Zumba will. Pilates and Yoga are more about working your core muscles and stretching. Yes you are burning more calories in a longer time span because you are not breaking it up. The good thing about breaking it up however is that you are training your metabolism to burn more consistently and evenly.

I figured that the yoga and stuff burns less, as it isn't as intense. I am glad that breaking it up works okay, because it feels more like I am getting my whole body, and I kind of like to use the yoga as a cool down. I love the box-fit, but the circuit training is harder for me, and I am not sure I want to push to an hour of circuit training yet >_< I tried that with Zumba the other day, because I was having fun with it, and now my ankles have been hurting since. I won't be doing that again for a while.

PS: why are you posting at 4:20 in the morning hun lol?

This is where the "fat burning zone" on HRM charts comes in. It is possible to work so hard that you are not burning calories at a very high rate. There is a zone of high calorie burn - below that you aren't working hard enough, above that you are working so hard that your body makes a different kind of adjustments.
