Any big time road bike enthusiasts out there? I'm currently awaiting my first road bike to arrive (a Trek 2.1), and I was curious if there are any good community pages, good blogs, good websites, or even a good MFP community of dedicated road bikers.

I've lost a lot of weight and am getting to the point where I want to think about competing. I've loved spin classes, but I'm ready to actually move.

I've started a blog here http://backstreetbiker.blogspot.com/

I'm pretty ignorant about most aspects of biking, but I'm very interested in learning and talking with vets. Anyone out there?

    Bump!

I just bought my first roadbike too!!! It's used and in need of some lovin', but it's what I could afford. I rode for the first time a few days ago and had a blast... my rump, however, did not. So, I immediately got online and ordered some padded bike shorts and a seat cover. Hopefully these tools will help me stay out there longer!

I'm used to the seat on a stationary bike, but I bet it's worse with the bumping. The sales associate I spoke with at the bike store told me that on long rides thicker, padded seats like to chafe where your legs meet your crotch, so he was trying to steer me away from seats. I can see the shorts, though. I typically wear baggy cargo shorts and when I was test-riding some bikes it was hard to get on because the loose cloth would impede my mount, haha.

Keep me posted how your riding goes. I'm very anxious for my Trek to get here!

Welcome roadies! This one is one of my favorites.

I commute to work as often as possible (with 2 kiddos sometimes their activities prevent it). My ride is about 6 1/2 miles each way. I love exploring new streets and neighborhoods. Group rides are fun too! I'm a cheapskate at heart so I typically prefer riding with a local cycling club instead of attending charity t-shirt rides.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how many calories can be burned cycling. Just one more reason to hop on and go!!
