how to stay motivated

How do u do it?? I can do it for 2 wks then I crash I hate it I do so gd for a short time then I just don't have it in me. I don't understand cause I wanna lose so bad..

    i have been doing it for 6.5 years. You have to really want it and you have to NEVER stop trying. Ate a cookie you didn't plan for? No biggie, cut something out to make up for it. Don't say "oh well" and eat 4 more cookies. Ate four more cookies anyways? again, stop, cut something to make up for it and vow to better. Had a entire bad day of eating? Get back on the wagon immediately. skipped working out, same thing. You have to just keep doing it.

    I think it's important to have cheat days every so often. I usually have one about every 2 weeks. Otherwise you will feel too deprived not having your favorite foods and then lose the motivation to stick to it. It's also nice that you CAN have the food you love w/ this site, just remember portion control and to log it. I had pizza tonight and still had calories remaining for the day. That doesn't seem like a diet to me, that's what is so amazing about MFP....to lose weight and still eat the foods that I love...also I love all the awesome support that I have on here. You can add me as a friend for motivation if you want...I will cheer you on!! You can do this!!!

    I agree.....If you keep trying no matter what, eventually the good habits will take over the bad. Don't give up....you're so worth it! :flowerforyou:
  • You need to have a big picture, a goal.
    Then you know what it is your aiming for.
    Use past failure as motivation to improve.
    MFP is great for motivation.
    Hang in there, once you start to lose you will want to keep going. xxx

    My big thing has been not denying myself. If I really want that mocha or that cookie, I go for it! Because if I don't then everything else looks good without being satisfying and I probably end up eating more calories than the cookie because I denied myself!

    Also, we used to eat pizza twice a week...not the best idea. But, we knew we couldn't cut it out completely. We now order pizza once a week but have switched to thin crust and not as many pieces!

    This website has actually been keeping me motivated. I'm actually afficted to checking the app on my phone. I hate seeing red numbers! I've NEVER had the inkling to run, but now I do. I'm not the best at it but I figure that any running (well jogging) is better than nothing.

    Here's what I just posted on facebook. I hope it helps a little.


    On May 16th I was sitting at work and I decided I was ready for change. It was the 1st day! Since then I've been exercising and counting calories. Seriously, did I need that much food? NO!! Now on June 9th, 25 days later (I think), I'm still exercising & counting calories and I've lost 15 pounds! I'll be up again tomorrow (the start of my weekend) at 6am to do my 2 mile walk/jog!!!

    It's not always fun but I know I have to do it. I want to run & play with Joe & the kids. I want to run up the stairs without being winded. I want to wear clothes that are cute and not just clothes that fit.

    I agree! It is not about doing away with all the foods that you love but about eating them less. And really, once you get a month or so in, you may still want to eat "bad" food but can't eat as much anymore anyways. Where you used to eat 4 pieces of pizza, you will feel yourself getting full with less because you have gotten used to eating less.

    Also, I think it is super important to find an exercise that you actually LIKE doing! I HATE working out but once I started doing Zumba on the Wii I have found myself wanting to workout because it is fun!

    It's crucial to find a healthy way that DOESN'T make you feel miserable or deprived. That way, you're not gonna fall off the wagon because you enjoy riding that wagon.

    My family is from Korea. My eating habits used to be terrible (McDonalds/ Wendy's 3+ days a week, and sit-down restaurants at LEAST once a week). For years, my parents tried to get me to eat healthier, homemade Korean food for health/ weight loss, but I just couldn't do it. See, there are a few Korean dishes that I absolutely love, but aside from those, I'm not really into Korean cuisine.

    The only reason I'm able to stick to my new lifestyle is that I have found healthy western food. I have found an option that I can enjoy. Keep looking and experimenting, and you might find yours too.
