During the work week I have to split up my cardio between, to and from work( I bike commute),breaks, lunch and then when I'm home I usually walk the dog a few times(2 or 3 at 15 minutes a walk). I guess my question is does this still help weight loss, even though I am active over 90 minutes a day or do I just need to do it all in the morning and at night for longer periods of time?

I have no informed answer. I walk 30 minutes in the morning and another 30 at night. I have been losing steadily. I am interested in the answer to your question.

Any cardio will help you. And thanks for the cycling site.

I may be wrong here, but from what I've read, your HR needs to be elevated for 20-30 minutes to consider it a workout and to burn more calories. But honestly, you're being active, so that still counts.

The 20 minute stipulation (can't think of a better word right now) is what I've seen described as being needed to increase cardio and to increase your resting metabolic rate ("a minimum of 20 minutes a day, at least three times as week")

The OP will burn more calories because he's expending more energy but he won't get the cardio boost nor will he get the longer term benefit.

Oh, good to see another person from the Southwest here. I've traveled to Phoenix a few times and am considering relocating to that area. Further north, though. It would have to be in the mountains.

Born and raised here, and always thinking about moving up into the pines, but good paying jobs are scarce up there. So we'll just make the 2 hour drive to visit occasionally until then.

Thanks for the replies! Guess I'm just going to have to walk the dog a little longer.
