Hi,
I've got my first 5k in one week, I've been doing couch to 5k and I'm really excited about next Sunday's run. Unfortunately over the last week I've been getting really bad pain in my left hip after running, so I've eased off but on Friday I went for a 40 minute walk at lunch and was in real pain in the afternoon. Is there anything that I can do that will work between now and next weekend?
Thanks

you should probably NOT run at all -- and consider not running next weekend though it might break your heart.
Anything else might cause severe damage within your hip -- you should have someone look at it soon!
Best wishes!!!

You should take some advice from your doc.
Might be better to miss this one, rather than risk doing any serious damage.
There will be plenty more opportunities when the hip has recovered.
Good luck0 -
Have you been stretching properly? I know I get hip flexor pain if I neglect to stretch them after a run.
Here is a link to more info.--might help you determine if this is the problem.

Oh no that's so sad. Have you tried rolling on a foam roller? I sometimes get pain down the side of my legs after a run so I use the roller and it really helps. If not then maybe book in with a Physio. If you find a private clinic you can normally get an appointment the next day and they may be able to give you some practical advice and help in the meantime. On top of all of that I say take a couple of days off and stay positive!
Will keep my fingers crossed it resolves quick so you can run next week.0 -
Oh NO! I get hip pain in my right hip when I run sometimes. It usually doesn't hurt WHILE I am running, it's later in the day. I feel like such and old woman!! Usually a few days off and I'm good to go. I hope it feels better!0

Thanks everyone. I've had a look at the link and had a trawl around for exercises and stretches. I'm a bit addicted to running so I'm going to try those and also try changing my shoes. I've got some old shoes that I think change the way I run. I've been out for a quick test today and if it hurts this afternoon I'll stop and speak a physio. I couldn't bear to pull out of next weekend though, if I have to go round that course on a crutches I'll do it.0
