Just getting started

My daughter gave me an iPhone 4 for Mother's Day. Since I was new to the "app" world, I just started looking around to see what was out there and I found MFP and downloaded it. I got it set up and played around with it a little bit, but that was about it. That was, until yesterday. I've been so frustrated lately with my weight. My clothes are so old and they really need to be replaced, but I just can't bring myself to do it when losing 15 or 20 pounds will get me in a lot of clothes I already have. I took another really good look at MFP yesterday and decided I may as well try it. Imagine my surprise when I got on the scales this morning and saw that I had dropped 5.5 pounds since I set up my profile about a month and a half ago. That's without actually using MFP; I just had it on my phone! Imagine how much better I can do if I actually use the plan.

Today, June 11, 2011, I am starting MFP with a goal of getting healthier, off my medications, and into some much better fitting clothes. I need to lose about 110 pounds total, but my doctor said he would consider me medically healthy if I lost 90 pounds. If I lose 20 or 30 more I think I will look so much better. I'm not going to be a slave to the scale though. I will stop losing when I get to where I feel and look my best no matter what the scales say.

By giving me the iPhone, my daughter just may have saved my life. I am 5 feet tall and have a BMI of 47 which is morbidly obese. I've already started having health issues because of my weight and I know it will only get worse if I don't get this weight off.

Thanks for reading my story.

    Hi
Friend me if you would like. My daughter got me an iPod touch for my birthday In April. I searched apps and found MFP. I have lost 12 lbs, and for the 1st time I think I can keep at this for the long haul. It's like a game, my goal is to keep the net calorie numbers in the green. I started losing weight last year when my doctor put me on blood pressure medicine. Welcome abroad. I now weigh 259 looking to get down to 145. Realistically i am working at getting to the otherside of 200 by Jan . I figure that will be about 1.5 per week with plateaus. I am still learning things about the site. This week I learn NSV = non scale victory.

    Hi,
I am 5' 1". I have been on here for about a week and a half. What a super gift your daughter gave you? I think my BMI is around 33. I do know it is in the obese catogory. I am trying to get my walks in daily. I do a two mile one and I really need to do a 4 mile one to stay out of the red mark. I am on a different meal plan that does not really count calories. But it is nice to have the guideline and it is nice to be able to be around people striving for health.
Best of luck to you on your journey.

Hi there! I'm new too. Just like you, I did an app search 3 days ago and found MFP and was absolutely blown away. I LOVE it! I primarily access from the internet now but love that I can use it off my Droid while I'm out and about.

A little about myself: I'm 38 years old and mom to a 5 year old and 6 month old. I quickly lost the baby weight from this pregnancy and am back down to my pre-pregnancy size, but I never lost all the baby weight from 5 years ago so that is my goal. I developed gestational diabetes with this pregnancy and had an AWESOME dietician that educated me on the diabetic diet. I came off it after I had the baby and found out a few months ago that I am pre-diabetic and still need to lose weight if I want to avoid a lifetime of complications. So, here I am. I'm 5'6 and am currently 186 lbs. My ideal weight is 155 but I don't feel it would be realistic for me to reach that weight. Even when I was in my 20's and active duty Army I struggled to maintain that weight. I would be thrilled just to get down to the low 170's but, like you, my judge won't be the scales. It will be the way I look and feel. After only 3 days back on my diabetic diet I feel my energy levels going through the roof so I'm confident that I am well on my way! I've dropped 5 lbs in water weight since starting MFP. Nice to see the ticker move, even if it's only from the water weight. HAHA! Feel free to friend me if you'd like and you've made a great decision joining MFP! God bless.
